The 50 - 22 rule and the Goal Line Dropout aren’t new new rules. They’re new to our game. Those rules are copied from League. I’m all for making Rugby Union safer & more entertaining but given the number of rules we already have does our game need the introduction of a number of new rules?

The withdrawl of Deniliquin Drovers from the 2's comp and the withdrawl of Tumut Womens from the X's comp was sad news over the weekend and also slightly concerning. From a personal view I've always enjoyed the trip to Deni and admire the way they've stuck at it in a town very dominated by Aussie Rules. I can only hope that it is a recess and we will see them back bigger and better in 2023.

Like wise for the Tumut girls. I suspect a finite sport playing population is the biggest issue. I'd also note that Tumut League has managed to get a league tag side together and wonder if this has been at the expense of the Bullettes ?

I'd also be hoping that the 4th Wagga club can scrape together the numbers for a 3's team by end of play today. Whilst a 5 team comp isnt great , its certainly better than a 4 team one. A healthy 3's comp indicates that Rugby is healthy in the zone - and we need that more than club rivalries.

SIRU tipping comp will be operated again this season. An email will come out from sirutipping@gmail.com on a tuesday for the following weeks tips and with the results from the previous week. If you don't send your tips you get the away games. We will be tipping SIRU first grade and SIRU women's with a bonus match each week from Super Rugby Pacific, Super W or the John I Dent Cup. This bonus game will be worth 2 points.

I'll post my tips here for transparency weekly.

$20 is the entry fee with the winner to take all.

if you want to be added to the emails and join please send an email through.

Cheers

Not good news for Deniliquin (2nd Grade) and Tumut (Women's).
It does look a bit odd with two 1st Grade teams having a Bye each Saturday and now three Women's Teams have a Bye each Saturday with Tumut's withdrawal
Helps with Referee appointments at least

Folkus, the distorted nature of the draw (especially 1st grade) evolved last year to accommodate the inclusion of Deniliquin and Hay clubs (men’s 2nd grade & Hay women’s). Instead of developing the draw from the men’s 1st grade down the draw has been done from the 2nd grade up. Now Deniliquin have withdrawn as have Hay girls. 3 Womens team byes & 2 1st grade byes every Saturday? Isn’t this ridiculous? Isn’t it time to revisit the draw before the season gets too far underway.

I'm sorry but this is a subject that is not going to be worth arguing about. Hay need to play rugby , Deni needed to play rugby(non issue now) . How do you make it work otherwise ? Its not perfect , it annoys me too but its what we have so we need to work with it !

2 1st teams & 3 women’s teams sitting around doing nothing each round. The clubs involved have teams. There are teams available to play against. ???

My tips for the week ?

1sts
Tumut V tahs - it may be the kiss of death but i reckon they love a good tahs ambush at Jarrah.
Griffith v Albury - I think Albury may be in for a torrid day but to be fair Griffith often take a bit to get going . Comfortable win for the Blacks
CSU v Leeton - this is pot luck as i dont know much about either. Reddies because its a home game
City v WAC - Aggies have a bit more on deck this year so wont be the blow outs seen last year

Womens X
Griffith
CSU
City

Went to Blacks v Steamers yesterday. 20 - 16 full time. Disallowed try just before final whistle to Steamers. Was definitely a try. Scored just in front of me. Ref ( who had a really good game) was unsighted. Lines person made the call. No offence meant to the young girl who was the lines person (looked to be a young lady in her mid teens who some people suggested had come along with the ref). Surely a young person like that shouldn’t be put in a position like that. A large no. of the Steamers players knew it was a try and remonstrated with the ref. Surely home clubs can get some players, ex players to do a course and be properly attired lines people for home games. Should be mandatory. Games shouldn’t be allowed to go ahead without them being provided. Long trip home for Steamers.

calling out potentially qualified young match officials is a sure fire way to push them away.

this type of message helps nobody.

We don’t have a potential young match official. We have a match official in a 1st grade fixture. I would assume not trained for the position and not officially attired. A young kid who is an assistant referee put in a position of making a decision on the outcome of a 1st grade match. Imagine if the decision went against the home team - the reaction from the home town supporters. I couldn’t think of a greater way to push a young person away. As usual your comments are dismissive. So is this forum just for you and your mates?

And as per usual your comments are negative and in this case potentially harmful. Shame on you

My comment is how do you know the person is not a qualified AR. I’ve seen the appointments and there was a female appointed as an AR. Therefore she is qualified.

Wouldn’t say I’m dismissing your opinion here but I am calling out referee and assistant referee bagging. We’ve had terrible troubles filling these positions for the last few years. The current president has done wonders thus far in his tenure. We need to support and help the referees and AR develop not can them in forums

You’re right I think the draw is ridiculous. Didn’t bag the ref. In fact said he had a really good game. The young AR shouldn’t have been put in the position she was put in. It is not in the best interests of that child. Clubs in my opinion should be made fill these roles with mature age appropriate people to support the refs we have. To suggest it’s OK to put a young kid into a situation like that is harmful. No wonder so many people have left this forum. You’re just a stand over merchant. Is this forum just for you and your mates?

so if this young AR is qualified to be there as I believe is the case you’re telling me that you know more about what’s right and wrong here then rugby Australia’s referee development pathway?

I’m all for an open forum, part of that is the right to agree disagree with opinion. I’m not asking you to change your view.

you did bag the AR. Which essentially is the same as bagging the ref.

I don’t think the draw is perfect however it got the approval from clubs and everyone that wants to play rugby is playing rugby so I see no reason to waste concern or energy on that.

Insults is one thing this forum has never stood for.
