Southern Inland Rugby 2019

Great news for SIRU Juniors, sounds like it's been planned "on the fly". Maybe there are some ACT/SNSW People paying attention to this site?

Does anyone have any further mail on this, has this been sent out to Junior Clubs etc?

https://act.rugby/news/2019/07/04/brand-new-southern-states-championships-for-2019

And a special mention to Jock Mason in the pic there. The photo there looks like Jock would rather be packing that scrum than calling the engagement sequence? :)

I think it's been planned for a while Sam, SIRU didn't send teams to the NSW Championships this year because of the new program. I'm not sure about Central West's participation though??? Maybe the delay in official press from the Brumbies is down to finalising agreements with NSW regarding pathways for Central West kids?? Just a guess though.

As a pathway for our kids it is exceptional. We play more evenly matched opposition with Brumbies selectors watching who can then keep an eye on and next year select our kids in the Brumbies teams.

As for our senior comp I'm ready to call it for finalists this year:

Tahs, Aggies, Albury & Griffith.

City, Tumut and Leeton are losing form at the wrong time of the year and CSU were never in the hunt.

I hope that's the case, this is the first I've heard of the program and I'd agree that it is a better option for the SIRU Juniors. It's arguably a throw back to the early 2000's when SIRU first kicked off, there was a similar concept out there for Colts and Seniors invloving CW, ACT North, ACT South and Illawarra.

I reckon you're not far off there mate. The City/Tumut/Albury/Griffith games are all really important for the finals makeup with only 3 points separating the clubs on the ladder. It sets up some really tight games over the coming weeks for all four of those clubs!

Having watched livestream game yesterday I was convinced Griffith would beat Albury in a semifinal game. Steamers have some great individuals but as a team they don’t seem to have that many attacking options. Interesting to see next week how much better the Waratahs are. I would love to see the end of their now 11 game winning streak.

With Leeton and Tumut being beaten by depleted sides yesterday Whistle they wouldn’t be competitive in the finals against full strength teams would they? Steamers don’t look to be fit enough. Blacks scored a lot of their points at the back end of the game when Steamers looked buggered. City are a lot more effective than CSU but both clubs are probably looking to next season.

Thanks @WhistleHappy, I reckon City left a number of points out on the park at CSU. Reddies had some good invidual performances on the day, most notably Dean Smart who played 1/2 of 2nd Grade and then Captained 1st Grade - a solid effort for sure.

@PB, The latter stages of a lot of games across the season have been where teams are running away with games. I think this points to two things, 1. Teams aren't as fit as they could be, and; 2. There is a drop in standard from the Reserve Graders coming on in the last 20-30mins or so.

If we keep an eye on the 2nd Grade Ladder, I reckon there's a good measure for the teams that have potential to play Finals Footy and it's interesting to note that the same 4 teams are in the Top 4 in both grades.

If the zone wants good attendance at the Finals Series, Griffith are a lay-down misre to host Week Two of the Finals.

Whilst Rugby Union is bleeding big time at the Top level at the moment it is a worry when our local coverage has been reduced
Rugby has been pushing sh1t up hill with the DA for years though hasn't it, the DA wouldn't even acknowledge the zone's major sponsor and I doubt much has changed in the paper over the years.

DA has a lot of sport to report on. In rugby there are 4 games. That’s multiplied in each of the other types of sports. As a zone we should use the internet to publicise and report on our game. The live streaming of games is fantastic. What about a video report via siru FB each week to preview games (Sam you and Whistle together on camera).

I'd be up for that PB, SIRU may need to invest in a wide angle lens to fit my big schnozz in though.

I reckon there's some legs in something like that mate, I have no media-related skills whatsoever though!!

Charlie Fox (21)
Griffith are on top in 3rd grade but they were beaten by Deni at Deni last week. With the lack of co-operation of the DA and the demise of the local TV news, promotion of rugby isn’t going to get easier. Development Officers see their job pretty much as working in schools to encourage kids to play rugby on weekends. Who else works in the Siru office. Who’s responsibility is promotion of the sport.

Thanks to one of my Mates who has the DA on Line and sent me through the Team Lists for Tomorrow's matches

Wagga City v Ag College

Saturday, Conolly Rugby Complex, 3pm (Wagga TV Streaming Game)
Wagga City
1 Nick Gleeson, 2 Adam Mokotupu, 3 Michael Tuilau, 4 Will Boneham, 5 Jacob Nielsen, 6 James Maloney, 7 Rory Sheard, 8 Gordon Lagaali, 9 Drew Martin, 10 Jayden Stanton, 11 Tom Jennings, 12 Eddie Lagaali, 13 Damian Dodds, 14 Nathan Smith, 15 Hamish Wrafter
Ag College
1 Pat Lemmich, 2 Sam Chalmers, 3 Harry O'Connor, 4 Matt Harris c, 5 Liam Mowbray, 6 Luke Turner, 7 Mike Van Diggelen, 8 Ben Brooke, 9 Gerard McTaggart, 10 Cam Duffy, 11 Will Whiteley, 12 Hamish Pennington, 13 Lochie Ramm, 14 Joe Hamblin, 15 Pat Logan
Ag College is my selection by less than 15- City have the players to take this game right up to Ag College but you just get a feeling Ag College will do enough to get the points tomorrow

CSU v Albury
Saturday, Beres Ellwood Oval, 3.20pm
CSU
1 Brad Crawford, 2 Michael Barnes, 3 Bailey Maloney, 4 Matthew Budde, 5 Tim Shephard, 6 Matthew Nosworthy, 7 Dean Smart, 8 Ted Wright, 9 Justin Wakeling, 10 Paul Hood, 11. Jacob McIntosh, 12. Lachlan Caple, 13. Hunter Lihou, 14. Sam Mulquinney, 15. Hamish McMahon
Albury
1 Charlie McIntosh, 3 James Kora, 4 Tom Harvey, 5 Laurence Lockington, 6 Dave Cooper- Dunn, 7 Liam Krautz, 8 Ryan O'Sullivan, 9 Tom Wilmore, 10 Blake Le Cornu, 11 Sam Seton, 12 Uraia Valuma, 13 Benn Reid, 14 Simon Clemence, 15 Sam Allen
Albury to win this one after their loss at home to Griffith last Saturday - CSU appear to be improving but not by enough to win this Match

Griffith v Waratahs
Saturday, Exies Oval, 3.20pm
Griffith
1. Epeli Kaloudonu, 2. Kieran McNabb, 3. Blake Theunissen, 4. Mitch White, 5. Will Valeri, 6. Timoci Tomeru, 7 Andries De Meyer, 8. Saione Ahomana, 9. Emanuel Dutack, 10. David Serakai, 11. Neori Qaranivalu, 12. Tikiko Koroivoutu, 13. Jack Glyde, 14. Naseri Taifai, 15. Dan Bozic
Waratahs
1 Harry Cook , 2 James Daley, 3 Rob Wiltshire, 4 Harry Hosegood, 5 Charlie Sykes, 6 Tony Ritchie, 7 James Whiteley, 8 Sam Bunny, 9 Sam Hobbs, 10 Tom Hobbs, 11 Callum Ramm, 12 Dan Selmes, 13 Blake Hart, 14 Morgan Jones, 15 George Mallat
Easily the Match of the Round ? and I'm not going to mention a certain team's winning streak !!- The Waratahs forward pack will lay the foundation for a convincing win over Griffith Tomorrow - the Blacks have been playing well but they won't be able to match the defending Premiers power in the forwards- Waratahs by 15+. - Interestinbg to see that Chris Latu is not listed down to play for Griffith tomorrow after he 'Brained' Waratahs in their earlier clash this season

Leeton v Tumut
Saturday, No.1 Oval, 3.20pm
Leeton
1 Peceli Ratuibau, 2 Sai Raudradra, 3 Emori Logavatu, 4 Koresi Waqanivalu, 5 Dan Patu, 6 Will McCrohon, 7 Mesulame Navakayala, 8 Eroni Nauau, 9 Semi Rokodinono, 10 Soro Bainivalu, 11 Nick Paterson, 12 Andew Tuilagi, 13 Meki Cagialau, 14 Kelevi Ralulu, 15 Tamiki Kohere
Tumut

1. Karl Oliver, 2. Stu Govan, 3. Will Kingwill, 4. Will Reynolds, 5. Jon Carmody, 6. Ray Saunderson, 7. Coen Potter, 8. Will Luff, 9. Andy Graham, 10. Brad Gorman, 11. Noah Hargreaves, 12. Dai Hooper, 13. Vaughn Scott, 14. Will McLennan-Dye, 15. Chris Hartshorn
Finals are definitely out of reach for Leeton this year and they will be out of reach for Tumut after the Phantoms beat the Bulls tomorrow- from all accounts Tumut threw away a 14-0 lead last Saturday against Ag College due to poor discipline and some poor decision making - Leeton by 10

That’s a great write up Whistle.
Can’t disagree with your selections mate

Charlie Fox (21)
Agree with Mauler, Whistle. Fantastic write up. Great to see team lists. Curgenven injured ? Latu hasn’t been around for a while. Interesting preview and selections. This is just what we need. Legend.

Whistle predicted strong opposition from the underdogs at Conolly and Griffith. Both won. Griffith convincingly. Are the Blacks the new favourites for the flag in 2019?

paul bristow

Charlie Fox (21)
Waratahs handed Griffith a mountain of possession Whistle by constantly dropping the ball. With all the ball Blacks kept mounting pressure which resulted in penalty goals and tries. The other factor was Saione, Whistle. He was a nightmare for Waratahs. When Waratahs managed to hold the ball Griffith found them very difficult to contain.

If Griffith can knock off Ag College next Saturday in Wagga they will be a big chance of getting 2nd on the Ladder by the end of the Season
The Blacks are definitely on a roll
I reckon the Blacks are definitely on a roll, however I think the run has been left too late for them to snare 2nd position (and a second chance in the finals series) as that depends on other results for them.

Aggies would need to lose twice in the last 4 weeks of the competition while Griffith would need BP Wins in all their games.

I haven't seen Griffith run round so far this season, but I'll be out at CSU this weekend for this game. It'll be season-defining for both teams!

Based on the remaining games this season, I believe Griffith will be in the Top 4 for the Finals Series. Does anyone know if Griffith have applied to host Week Two of the Finals?

yourmatesam

Desmond Connor (43)
Therefore this Saturday's match between Ag College & Griffith is huge for both Teams and if Aggies happen to lose that match against the Blacks their match against Albury on August 3 will probably decide who qualifies for the Major Semi on Aug 17 - either Ag College or Griffith

Yep, Aggies have got their work cut out for themselves if they want that 2nd chance in the Finals don't they.

Interestingly, Albury are potentially collateral damage out of the City win over Aggies on the weekend. They would have been hoping for an Aggies win to bring City back level with Albury on the ladder.

The results from this weekend actually throw some weight behind other games now too. Clearly the WAC v Griffith match this weekend is important, as is Albury v WAC in Round 15.

There are also some mathematical possibilities there for the Steamers too with City and WAC to play during the last rounds.

It's great to see so many possibilities at this stage of the season, it puts some genuine pressure on the teams as they move into the finals.

The punters I've been speaking to who were at Griffith v Tahs on the weekend noted a real buzz around the Blacks, just a confident, positive vibe around the club. I think Coach Morris has been a positive influence on the guys out that way since coming on board last year.

I dusted off my abacus this morning.

Griffith can bag 2nd place if WAC lose 2/4 in the remaining rounds.

The Steamers are still a mathematical possiblity to play Finals, but need to beat City and WAC with bonus point wins AND they need City to score zero points in those losses.

If City pick up one bonus point in those losses, it comes down to points differential which would likely play into City's hands.

Are Aggies back from holidays? Just looked at this week’s games and I reckon all the home teams might win. Would that make things clearer or more confused?
