SIRU Rams v Redbacks (City v Country) nominations for Men's 15-a-side and Women's 7-a-side have been called for by SIRU Coaches Richard Skellern and Seru Rogo and also Seth Stoltenberg for the Women's Teams.

These teams will play each other in a curtain raiser to the Brumbies v Horrortahs SupeRugby trial in Wagga on Sat 6th Feb 2016. Don't eat too much trifle over the break if you want to be in any form at that time of the year!

Also, SIRU and Brumbies Rugby are hosting the "Brumbies in the Bush" dinner on Friday 5th February 2016.

More details to follow as we get closer to the date, however things are looking pretty positive for a cracking start for 2016.

On another note, the 2016 draw and competition format have been released.

2016 will see a traditional Home and Away concept which will be refreshing for the zone. 14 rounds, a top 5 finals series played over 4 weeks.

The "Premier Division" format will be made up of Ag College, Albury, City, CSU, Griffith, Leeton, Tahs and Tumut with Hay, Deni and Junee slotting into the 3rd Grade Competition.

Comp kicks off on 9th April with the GF taking place on the 20th August.

SIRU will defend their BPT Crown in Bateman's Bay for the Brumbies Provincial Tournament on the June Long Weekend and will also face off against NSW Country in Central West on the 18th June which results in a two week bye to the competition. Not ideal I guess, but if that's how the cookie crumbles.

As I said above, it's looking like a solid start to the year already...

Interested to see the South Coast will host the BPT next year - I thought they may of been very close to pulling out...will be interested to see how the South Coast comp is even structured next year.

Crazy that the SI have the draw out already....great job!

I think I should clarify that the dates have been set for the season, kick off, general byes and gf date. The format is set, just the draw that needs to be formulated into the format now.

I think this will represent a positive step for the competition. 8 teams with 3 grades. 14 game season. Top 4 finals. Good old school rugby season.

Looking like a 2 grade competition with a stand alone 3rd grade/McMullen Cup being played separately... Not sure how all clubs will go sending their 3rd grade to Deni, Hay or Junee when 1st & 2nd grade are on the road elsewhere??? Also where does it leave the Deni girls???

That's how it's always been mate, nominations for 3rd grade teams traditionally close in January and a meeting held and draw sorted out for the clubs in February.

The reality is that there isn't a perfect scenario for all comers and that the competition provides a platform for all grades, however the First Grade competition is surely the main focus for all clubs?

If you think about the 4 Wagga clubs, they only need to leave Wagga on 4 of 14 rounds for the year, add to that the fact that the 3rd grade teams generally don't play more than 11 matches in a regular season (plus finals) on a 5/6 or 6/5 H/A basis and I reckon a draw will be sorted as best it can be. Check out the 2015 draw below...

I'm happy wait and see what the draw brings for third grade before commenting on how good/bad the situation is for all clubs and I'm confident the zone has got the runs on the board to show that they can work these situations out in consultation with the clubs.

Looks a pretty compact and neat Draw to me
The more I think about it maybe the departure of Coota, Temora & Young is a blessing for the Comp- less travel & more competitive matches and a full 14 Round Draw available to the clubs at the start of the saeson.
3rd Grade will work it self out & I'm sure that each of the Clubs with a 3rd Grade is going to mind splitting once during the season to go to either Hay or Deni
I would think that probably the likes of hay, Deni & Junee will probably play each other about 3 times each during the year
If SIRU can get a 17s Comp up and running they will have an even better season with most Saturdays having 1st, 2nds, 3rds, Womens & 17s

This one is a couple of weeks old and we're all aware that Junee were staying with SIRU. Gus raises some good points in the article, particularly in regards to travel.

I wasn't aware though that the Rams were looking to align themselves with another club. Reading between the lines, they want to be a part of something bigger and good luck to them, if they can negotiate with a local club and attract some home games at Junee, that would be a bonus for them.

If they are looking at Wagga clubs, I think there is value in them speaking to CSU. Aggies certainly don't need any additional numbers and Waratahs/City both seem to have enough players year to year.

Where have Temora, Cootamundra and Young moved to? What are Harden doing next year?
Jeepers Creepers Batman, have you been sleeping under a rock? I thought you mods kept an eye on things on GAGR?

Temora and Coota are off to the Central West "Graincorp South" Competition. Young will be playing in the Monaro First Division Competition in Canberra.

Not sure what Harden are doing, my memory says they played Monaro second division last year?

Harden supposedly playinmg in Div 2 Monaro Comp - 1 Grade only Comp
good to see Junee stay loyaly with SIRU
The Rams are good blokes to have in the Competition
It will be good to see them resume their rivalry with Hay in the McMullen Cup next year

So, Temora'd rather travel to Coolah (452km) than Hay (307km). An extra 290km in a round trip. Madness.

PS. yms, I'm not a mod, and I don't want to be one. But thanks for the virtual promotion. :)

Temora don't have to travel to Coolah - The Tuskers will have to travel to Condo, Coota, Wyalong, Grenfell, Canowindra, Orange & Blayney next year
Coolah are in the Northern one Grade Comp in C/West

Bloody hell there's been a lot happening so far this off-season, my head is spinning just trying to keep up!

Hamish Wraffter off to the states, Daniel Dowson Coaching at Tumut, Sam and Angus Allen get a crack at the Brumbies Under 20's, Temora/Coota to Central West, Young to Monaro, New Competition Format, Alan Jones coming to the Brumbies Dinner for the Super Rugby Trial vs Horrortahs.

Waratahs players (Stanton/Blanchard) heading to Wagga City, Nathan Honeyman Coaching at City, Albury lose a few stars (Krautz/Fagan/Allen/Botha/Shischka), Griffith lose Nick Gleeson to Queanbeyan, Ben and Chris Leaper and Stu Garrett leave Ag College(QBN), Sterling Ross heads to Ag College from CSU, Rory Sheard joins Wagga City from Young, Jock Mason (allegedly) retires, City lose Rhys Blackburn, Griffith announced Wille De Meyer as 2016 Coach, Liam Ward steps down at Leeton and the draw is out already!

2016 Coaching Puzzle:
Ag College - Nick McCarthy
Albury - Mick Raynes
City - Nathan Honeyman
Waratahs - Will Mitchell (Assist. Richard Skellern)
CSU - Paul Spain
Griffith - Willie De Meyer
Leeton - Seru Rogo
Tumut - Daniel Dowson

It has been a busy one ! @yourmatesam !

2016 will be a cracking season and possibly the tightest comp in a long time seems to be the general consensus. Who knows what else can happen in the pre season !!

Just as a note for those interested, Jimmy Blanchard played for City (15 first grade games) in 2014 :)

Roll on 2016 !

why would Will Mitchell who took his team to a G/Final & neraly caused the upset of the century need R Skellern as an Assist / Coach for 2016 ??
Skellern doesnb't kno what the word Assistant means
Plenty of mail going around that City will be the beneficiary of Skellern's Appointment
Should be an interesting Pre Season at Conolly
