not suprised by the result of any of the matches, however i thought Tumut and City match would be a bit closer... were city poor or Tumut red hot?

Little column A and a little column B on that Willy M !

Tumut played well and certainly don't let you back into a game once they have control of it. Well organised and structured in attack but its the Bulls defence which gets them over the line. Aggressive and fast off the line ! This is a quality team - but you'd know that !!;)

Certainly a lot to play for this weekend and should be some cracking games this weekend. If I wasn't so busy at Connolly , I'd love to have watch that 1 v 2 clash at Jarrah park!

Fred Wood (13)
Willy, the chances of me uttering anything audible in favour of Tahs are very very very low mate haha

Across the park this is a very interesting game. Up front Bulls are quite strong, and have a ridiculous amount of pace out wide. Given that your boys haven't dropped one and Bulls have only dropped 2 games I'd be loathe to tip either way. On a wet track in Tumut, it will be a belt fest of a game. If there is a margin any greater than 7 in it , I'll be surprised !

On another note , City will be hosting a monster day of Rugby at Connolly tomorrow. Two very big games with direct implications on the finals make up this season. City needs to win and so does Griffith. A loss sees either side relying on other results to make the 5 ! Across on field 2 Aggies will be fighting to stay in contention as well. A win keeps them in the ring but a round 14 clash with Tahs means this is a must win for them as well.

So if you're standing at Beres Ellwod feeling lonely and possibly a tad confused as to why no rugby is going on , get over to Connolly! There is $5 entry as all proceeds at the gate go towards the Amy StClair foundation this week.

#SIRU2016 Round Twelve Preview:
Only a few rounds to go now until the finals series gets underway and there is still a bit of a logjam in the positions 4th through 6th on the ladder so plenty to play for over the coming weeks!

Note that there is a double header on at Conolly Park this weekend with the closure of Beres Ellwood Oval.

Ag College (6) v Albury (7)
Six competition points separate these teams leading into this match and Aggies will be keen to take every point they can out of this match as they continue their run for the final five. While Griffith deserved the win last week, Aggies did not deserve the score line. Griffith held Aggies out for an extended period of time with about 15mins to go which is what broke them.

I think this game will actually be pretty tough for both teams; Aggies worked hard for the full 80mins last week and will need to graft it to get round the Steamers forwards in this one on a wet track at CRP #2. The Steamers know how to win in the wet and will play out the full 80mins in this one.

City (5) v Griffith (4) – Match of the Round
Talk about coming down to the wire! These two teams are only separated by one measly competition point (24 and 23pts respectively) and have Aggies sweating on results back on 21 points. All this adds into a big match for both clubs.

City will be pleased to be hosting Griffith this weekend and will not mind the weather at all, it could even be argued that the wet weather suits the majority of their players… While Conolly is always a good surface, ball handling and wet conditions will come into play in this game and the team that can hold onto the ball will likely come out on top.

A highlight for the Blacks from last weekend was their line speed, defensive structure and the way they played out the game. While they probably need to focus for longer periods of the game, when things click for them, they really click and they can break a team’s defensive line easily.

Wagga City have been playing some decent footy in recent weeks also and have had their fair share of wet weather games also in recent weeks which should hold them in good stead for this game. A strong forward pack and a settled scrum have helped them set the tone for the rest of their team.

This stability can be put down to their imported front rowers and a strong tight five who will have to work hard against the large Griffith pack. While Griffith have some big boppers in their forwards, it’s their outside backs that can do the damage and I would suggest that this is where Griffith will look to exploit Wagga City tomorrow.

Regardless of game plans, who’s in or who’s out – this game is an important match for both teams, particularly considering they could be playing each other in three weeks time!

Tumut (2) v Waratahs (1)
Top two would easily be Match of the Round any other day of the year, but there’s too much riding on the City v Griffith game for that to happen. This game is not important in terms of ladder positions, however will be a great indicator of what the finals could look like.

Tumut have been plugging along very well this season and will be happy to take on the soaring Waratahs at a cold, wet and windy Jarrah Park this weekend. No doubt there will be some tough tackling from the Bulls on display here which seems to be the preferred method of play against the ladder leaders at the moment.

Arguably, the pressure is on Waratahs in this match as the vast majority of punters consider them a lay down misère for the GF – will this allow the Bulls to bash them into submission this weekend?

Leeton (3) v CSU (8)
A tough trip on the road for the Reddies out to Leeton #1 Oval this weekend although I’m sure the Reddies will be buoyed by some recent gains in the previous weeks.

Wow, big score for 1 v 2... This weekend is another 1 v 2 match up, wonder if Leeton can get any closer????

Griffith somehow have managed to miss the finals after looking certain this time last week.

Does that mean that Griffith can't beat Tumut? Does the match at CSU this week become important for Aggies?

My Primary School Maths has the ladder as:
Waratahs (60), Leeton (46), Tumut (44), City (28), Ag (26), Griffith (24), Albury (15), CSU (2)

And the following matches for the next two rounds:
Rd 13:
Albury v City - Albury at Albury, in the wet, slippery pitch, Albury hungry for a win, City keen to take max points from the remaining games.
Tumut v Griffith - tough gig for the Blacks no doubt, another wet track at Jarrah Pk. Will this favour the Bulls?
CSU v Ag - Will this be played at CSU or Conolly? Does the surface matter? Local derbies can throw up all sorts of outcomes, particularly at the Uni.
Waratahs v Leeton - How does this influence the finals? From all reports Leeton are the team that have threatened Waratahs the most this year.

Rd 14:
Griffith v Albury - Big trip for the Steamers to round out the year.
City v CSU - City will be happy to be at home here.
Ag v Waratahs - Could be at CRP #2 again if this rain keeps up, either way, the track will impact the game.
Leeton v Tumut - A big trip again for the Bulls and a tough game for these teams leading into the finals.

I've called it early ;) I just can's see the Blacks getting over Tumut (in Tumut) and given the draw the other finals contenders have, they have to win to have any hope.

I wouldn't like to be relying on a CSU upset to save my season...

Unfortunately it seems highly unlikely CSU can beat Aggies on the weekend because the Blacks can definitely get over the Bulls. The Blacks should have beaten the Phantoms on both occasions this season and got a few shaky calls against Tumut in the first round. They have a much better travelling attitude with their new coach and the Bulls should be prepared to bring their A game.

Sorry Sam, perhaps the term 'rub of the green' would have been more appropriate.

Sounds like someone's making excuses for their team's loss there Paul.

Remember that Griffith had only won one from five at that stage of the season and had played CSU, Waratahs, Leeton, Aggies and City prior to that game.

Since Round Six, they've won three more games after playing Tumut, Albury, CSU, Waratahs, Leeton, Aggies and City

Griffith lost to Tumut, fair and square.

Tumut did well to travel to Griffith and pull off that win, it's the biggest road trip in the zone and for me the win was a symptom of the difference between how both clubs were able to prepare for that game.

The re-match between the Blacks and the Bulls this weekend at Adelong will be a cracker. I don't envy the likes of Mick Stalley having to travel this weekend, can someone charter a plane for him for this one? What's the cost/benefit on that one? He'd be up for roughly a 10-11 hour round trip?

Any news of where the chalks and Aggies are playing this weekend? Will it be at Conolly again? Or has Beres been lasered, covered, sanded and oversewn already? haha
Have to feel for Aggies a bit, next week is their sponsors day and if its not at Beres then where do they host it? Anyone got any ideas for NEUTRAL ground?

Wagga Cricket Ground, Harris Park, Parramore?

Conolly #1 and #2 are getting a workout at the moment, I've never seen Conolly #1 so soft, hopefully this rain f@@ks off soon and we can get some sunny days over the next couple of weeks.

Should have put this up earlier in the week, but congrats to Matty McTaggart and Dylan Pietsch who have made the Aust Schoolboys and Aust Barbarians teams respectively.

Great effort fellas!

Also, look out for Alicia Quirk and Sharni Williams who will be sweating on the Women's Sevens Team being announced for Rio later this week.

Team announced an hour ago and both girls made it.

Congrats to them and the boys, it has been a couple of years in a row that SIRU juniors have made an Australian Schools team now - great to see.

#SIRU2016 Round Thirteen Preview:
Another solid round of rugby across the zone this weekend and another top of the table clash that isn’t Match of the Round. Again, the Tumut v Griffith match has more impact on the final make-up of the finals contenders than Waratahs v Leeton.

Albury (7) v City (4)
A cool, sunny day is predicted for this weekend at Fortress Murrayfield, however it is likely that the surface will be slippery and soft. The Steamers acknowledge that their season hasn’t been great this year, however arguably have a good shot against a Wagga City outfit who have been a bit Jekyll and Hyde this season.

The City Men played a sensational first half against the Blacks last week but fell away as the pressure mounted in the second half. Coach Honeyman will be keen to resolve these fade outs as they continue their charge towards the 2016 Finals Series.

Set-pieces will be important in this match and this is an area that the Steamers know how to grind out a win, they scored first against Ag College last week off a strong rolling maul. If they get their kicking game on song and can pilfer some lineouts, they may create some opportunities here.

Wagga City’s strength this season has been their broken play running, which was a highlight against the Blacks last week, if the Steamers do kick and they’re not accurate, City will make them pay with a livewire back three who love the kick-return.

Tumut (3) v Griffith (6) – Match of the Round
Another big game for the Blacks this weekend and a big mountain to climb as they head to the picturesque Adelong International Sportsground to take on the Bulls in a very important game for their season. The snow that has been around this week will play into the Bulls hands and I don’t envy either team running around up there this weekend!

The Bulls will be hurting with the recent news that Dan Dowson has fractured his arm and will miss up to six weeks of footy. This is something that the Blacks will be keen to exploit in the backrow and will look to the likes of Chris Latu’s running game here. Chris has been pretty quiet by his standards this season and hasn’t really had the chance to show off some of those bullocking runs lately.

Griffith were slow to start last week in Wagga and can’t afford to allow the Bulls the same grace this weekend, they’ll need to play for the full 80mins and focus from the starting whistle if they want to play in the finals in 2016. When they did find their feet, they played much more on the front foot and were dangerous, this is how they need to play this weekend.

Tumut will be confident that they have what it takes to bag a win in this match and will be pretty stoked with the recent cold weather which will play into their hands. The 2016 season has seen them play a more expansive game plan than they are traditionally known for, I’m not sure that this is the best game plan for them this weekend though. Should they be looking to grind it out early before exploring out wide later in the game?

This match will be a ding-dong doozy and one that will likely decide the fate of the Blacks’ 2016 season. If you’re a fan of cold weather, autumn leaves and hot coffee, head to Adelong for this one!

CSU (8) v Ag College (5)
One of the most anticipated local derbies of the season here this weekend could be played at any number of venues across the Wagga CBD as the state of the pitch at Beres Ellwood is diabolical. Wet and soggy is an understatement here – pea soup more accurate.

Aggies are still finding their feet in recent weeks and are probably in a similar boat to Wagga City where the 5mins of lost concentration is hurting them, particularly against the higher ranked teams. They play well when they’re concentrating, but those little one percenters appear to be hurting them at the moment.

The return of Hamish Pennington to 5/8 has been a win as his combination with Jeremy Lim at #9 is important for how they move around the pitch, the speed of service and direction provided by these two has really improved this season. Maybe playing with the likes of Riley Brennan and Cam Duffy assisted these two?

Waratahs (1) v Leeton (2)
Another big game for these teams as they head into this season’s Finals Series and one which will provide some insight into how they may look later in the year.

From all reports, the Phantoms have shown that they are keen to play Waratahs on the physicality front in the first instance, looking to defend strongly before they think about attacking in those wider channels.
There’s no doubt that Waratahs are dangerous out wide and Le Lievre (rightly) becomes a focus for the opposition, however the support roles that are functioning around players like Le Lievre, Hobbs, Corcoran etc are pretty strong too.

When Waratahs break or bend the defensive line, the support players coming from depth are there in numbers and this is creating a pretty confident team who are happy to throw some wild passes knowing that there will be some level of support coming through. While this is paying dividends for them, it can provide an opportunity for those teams that do defend with good structure to make strong contact with the ball carrier and expose a loose carry.

I haven’t seen much of the Phantoms in recent weeks, however am confident that their key players like Simon Vunilagi and Bill Bevan will lead from the front in this match. The Phantoms backrow have been pretty handy in recent years and will need to be in fine form against the mobile Waratahs forward pack.

Set-pieces will be pretty evenly contested in this game with both packs boasting a number of SIRU rep players, the halves are also rep quality, Waratahs have the edge through the centres though and the back three are pretty even also.

Hopefully, we see some sunny days over today and tomorrow to allow the pitch to dry out a bit at Conolly and allow for some expansive footy this weekend.
