The SIRU thread has been running for 5 seasons on GAGR and has always been a place where we welcome the insights of the local rugby community and it would be great to keep this thread chugging along those lines.

Usually, someone's first post on GAGR is an opportunity to welcome them to the fold and share their insight into what they know about the local rugby competition. This thread is not one of the old "rugbynet" forums which generally degenerated pretty quickly based on the efforts of nameless keyboard warriors.

Bottom line - keep it positive or take it elsewhere mate.

oh No- Wagga City coach Mick Small mentioned the word Premierships in today's DA - "and you talk premierships and you need match winners and he's (Curgenven) definitely a match winner" said Small
Poor old Wagga City they just don't get it do they - I don't think I have ever known a Club to Talk the Talk repeatedly about winning a prtemiership but time & time again they come up empty- Good Luck to Small and his merry men as they chase the holy grail of a Premier Division Premiership but don't hold your breath because the Boiled Lollies usually find a way to let themselves and their supporters down by the end of the season"

What are thoughts on the rep squads?
Just from what I know of the players involved, I reckon the country side will dominate the forward battle but the city backs are miles ahead.
Not sure who the country front row is but with the likes of Latu, Dowson, Hardie and Maxwell, they will be sure to cause some damage.
Just noted that JP Fenukitau is confirmed for Ag. He had a good season over here so will be interesting to see if he rips up SIRU next year.
Ag are looking dangerous but I wouldn't write off Albury with olds going back.

Congratulations to Jack on his role for 2015 and beyond with the QLD Reds system. The Brumbies Development Position is certainly proving itself to be a pathway to higher honors over the years. With Jack's appointment, I guess there is some real egg on the face of those out at CSU Reddies who basically kicked him out of the club, for offering his thoughts and ideas???

My mail is suggesting the Wagga City lads and Ag College will be the big movers and shakers up the ladder in 2015, while CSU will be a contender for the Romano's Paper Plate.

wow! what I would give to move to QLD and be involved with a super rugby franchise! what a great opportunity for jack. best of luck to him, climbing the rugby ladder and a new challenge. good on him. as for the rep squads berrablue, i thought the same when I saw them, the city forwards will be in for a battle even if their backs are handy. interesting to see more tahs didn't put their hand up, munro, killer, bonner, shortis et al. #palmermorecomebacksthanfarnham

To be honest, I haven't paid any attention to them, I'm on holidays at the moment but will get to have a look at them later this week. I'd agree with your points above @berrablue. Any mail on JP Fenukitau?

What are thoughts on the rep squads?

Ok, so I've had some time to look over the squads and I would offer the below:

I would probably expect the City team to be playing a more "up tempo" style of footy. The guys named in that team are generally pretty fit and should have the ability to play at a faster pace (well, as fast a pace as can be expected late January!).

It will be interesting to see how Curgenven, Olds and Manion combine, these guys definitely love playing attacking rugby but who will play where??

The Country team are sporting some big boppers (Latu, Dowson, Maxwell, Molineuax and Seaman) who should have no problems stamping their authority on the match. In the backs, Tino, Shortis and Bunny will be well backed up by the Temora's 2nd crankiest Halfback Nathan Philp.

So it's a tale of two teams, each have their strengths and weaknesses, one with a hand forward pack, the other with a handy backline. Can the City backs survive on whatever their forwards can provide? Can the Country forwards dominate across the park to assist wherever possible?

There are some interesting inclusions in the mix for the rep teams. Sam Hobbs at Ag College? Olds and Macdougall for the Steamers? Are these signs for the 2015 season?

I'll be keen as a green bean to see JP Fenukitau run around.

On the Women's match, I think these two teams are very evenly matched, watch out for Sammy Maxwell and Monique Higgins, Bek Lally and Elina Feagi. Leeton and Wagga City deserve to have such a strong representation in the rep squads as they have worked hard to support the ladies at their respective clubs and this should bode well for a solid season for each of them.

Good summaray yourmatesam the rivalry will keep the redbacks going for most of the match but City should have a little too much class.Also, it's pretty hard to predict match ups for a Jan 31 match - in the end the fittest team will probably win because if its really hot there will be plenty of gaps on the field.
The word is Tickets are selling OK but one of my contacts tells me that the Dinner on the Friday night before the game is very popolar and could be the highlight of the Weekend.
Gordon Bray & Rod Kafer have confirmed their availability on the night and all the Brumbies will be there as well as the Wagga City Male choir performing - I hope the SIRu players playing the next day take good care of themselves

Any truth to the whisper that Waratahs have Richard Turnbull locked in as part time (work commitments prevent a full time role) coaching director / consultant? Not willing to commit to the head coaching role so the club are still looking for a 1st XV head coach.
Heard Aggies are going to be real improvers on their 2014 season, yet may not be enough to make a dent into the top division.
I must have missed the announcement of Spain to take over form Mick Wakeling out at CSU??

I reckon Coota will really struggle this year - A Club with a very inexperienced Committee, a club that has lacked a lot of discipline on and off the field in recent years and a Club that doesn't seem to know where they belong ? - Wouldn't be surprised if they only end up with 1 Grade in 2015 and that means its probably the beginning of the end for the Tri-Colours - they need to bring back guys like Mark ward & Lach Bssingwait to instill a bit of spirit into the Club - Good Luck Me Bungendore - you'll need it

See below kick off times for the Brumbies v Highlanders match on the 31st Jan in Wagga. There should be some talented kids running around in the Under 20's match. My tip for the day will be that the main game will not kick off on time...
From all reports, the Friday night dinner is selling very fast (if not sold out already) and that the Brumbies have opened up a second VIP Package for the grandstand.
Only two weeks away, I'm looking forward to watching some quality players run around on the 31st while downing a few cold ones!
3.00pm – Brumbies Under 20s v Melbourne Rebels U/20s
4.50pm- Mens’- SIRU Rams v SIRU Redbacks
6.15pm- Womens’ – SIRU City v SIRU Country
7.00pm- Brumbies v Otago Highlanders

Drove past Connolly Park the other day, the work on the new ground looked fantastic. Does anyone know if it will be ready for 2015 and is it planned to become the main ground? What a potentially fantastic cauldron!!!
