I came back to Wagga looking forward to seeing a star studded Griffith show off there classy recruits. What a disappointment.
The fullback was sent in the first five for a late shot, not the first of the day. From there the Tahs capitalised on the blacks poor set piece and even worse discipline. Dan Selmes had little trouble shutting down Vunibaka, who was pushed out onto the wing in defence. If the blacks want a lesson in being tough they should of watched the Waratahs ten who put on shot after shot, legally.
The Waratahs should be applauded for not reacting to the punches and late shots. A mate from Temora said they were just as bad last week. I hope SIRU start to take this seriously before someone really gets hurt.

Cant comment on the game as I wasn't there , but, like you my spies from throughout the zone also tell me that Griffith can be unruly. My tip for the the SiRU clubs is to get your games recorded as the citing procedure becomes quite difficult if there is no footage. Also , SIRU have no control over how a club/team plays during the course of the game of rugby as that is TOTALLY in the hands of the ref. He is the only judge of time ,law & fact during the game and the Judiciary is an autonomous body , as it should be, which SIRU has no control over. However SIRU do have an ability to review the Judiciary boards findings and can impose adjustments to the sentence handed down. All in the "by laws".

Good work picking a squad, It's a pretty fresh face looking side with a number of the older/usual names missing. It's still good to see some old heads like Munro, Hardie, Burey though.

It's also good to see a selection from such a wide variety of clubs with 8 of the twelve clubs represented!

#SIRU2014 Round Eight Preview:

Hi Folks,

My apologies for the slackness of my replies lately but I haven't had the time to write up a preview and this week is no exception.

Griffith (4) v CSU (2) will be tipped as Match of the Round by the paper, but I would argue that Aggies (7) v Young (5), City (6) v Temora (9) and Tumut (8) v Coota (10) are more important games at this time of year.

With only 4 rounds left until the split, every match is critical for those teams who have visions of playing in the Premier Division and that middle table is bunched! http://southerninland.rugbynet.com.au/default.asp?id=62116

Griffith v CSU will also have an emotional edge as the teams honour Ben Groat's memory at the Coro Club this weekend. Tumut are hosting Cootamundra at the Bull Paddock on Sunday in conjunction with their Juniors Gala Day - finger's crossed for some decent weather for this hit out!

How has Vunibaka been playing?

From what I've seen, he's playing well enough. The reality is that he is a class above the competition but is playing within the competition which is good to see. If he was to really turn it on, I don't think there would be much that guys in this area could do to stop him.

I wonder if he'll play in the Brumbies Provincial Team?

I imagine he would be a shoe in for the provincial team. However, I think the Provincial team is a great development opportunity, which makes me wonder why he has put his hand up. SIRU/Brumbies Provincial is great for players to be tested and challenged above what they normally would, which helps them grow and develop their rugby skills.

I almost think it's a shame Vunibaka would take a position, which someone else would benefit greatly from. I'm not saying Vunibaka shouldn't be selected or have put his hand (at the end of the day he is a great player and hence why I think he's a shoe in for it), I just think the Rep pathway is great for developing our talent and the experience of rep could benefit other players more.

SIRU/Brumbies Provincial is great for players to be tested and challenged above what they normally would, which helps them grow and develop their rugby skills.

To look at this from another angle, when will players from SIRU get the chance to be coached by a Level III coach AND play with two Fijian Internationals?

What greater chance to learn from players who have tread the path?

If I was playing, I'd be buzzing at the chance to play in that team.

Long time SIRU spectator, first time contributor.
Realistically only 3, maybe 4 teams are capable of winning this comp. I have had the opportunity to watch the top sides at least twice, (except Albury only once) I thought I would share my assessments so far...

Albury - Slow starters, premiership hangover, mass exodus of players have all been used to describe the steamers in 2014. All justified, however I think they have too many good players in the right positions to be written off. The slow start will be long forgotten very shortly id imagine. When the "House" gets his house in order, look out.

Griffith - I, like many gathered up my fold up chair & a few cans & went up to watch Tahs V Griffith last weekend. I was very dissapointed in the Blacks while very impressed with Tahs. The Griffith lads looked very disorganised, whilst Vunibaka just looked like he would have rather stayed at home. If they can get some structure & organisation in their game, they could be hard to beat, Very hard. I know Rogo is past his prime, but perhaps slotting himself in at #10 could just be the tonic to solve the organisational problems & you could not put a price on his experience.

CSU - Having watch the students 3 times I am convinced that the competition in general has caught onto their self described "10's" type rugby. They can be entertaining to watch, don't get me wrong & will win plenty of games in this fashion, but they need more than one string to their bow. They are not as complete as 2013 & are missing something that I can not put my finger on. Their attack is one dimensional & predictable, whilst their forwards are too light leading to an embarrassing set piece. They could play in a GF though as their unpredictability can be a strength of theirs.

Waratahs - The benchmark & rightly so. They made Griffith look second rate & their forwards are beasts. I couldn't help but think of how scary they will be when Dave Armstrong is considered for 1st grade selection. Their backs are solid enough to contain any other backline also. They were probably lucky to have made the GF last year, as I feel that CSU were the better side, but in 2014 they have gone up about 3 levels. I really can not find a weakness in their squad. Injuries to key personnel could be all that prevents them from holding up the cup in late August.

Pretty much sums it up from down.here as,well. I understand the move to be with mates, but it's a tad unfortunate that corcoran and armstrong didn't head to City instead, would have evened things out a bit

Just trying to work out if CSU being predictably unpredictable is a good thing or just a contradiction from the author.
