What are your thoughts?
With Beau Robinson out now for 5 weeks as a minimum and the REds lacking geniune opensiders (due to Uner 20's world cup etc)... what about trying to secure George Smith's services for a couple of weeks?
He played yesterday at Twickenham for the Barbarians and along with his 6 and 8 totally dominant a young and experimental England team. He was close to MOM in my opinion.
The benefits of being signed by the Reds would also ensure he could be picked for the World Cup in NZ I would assume?
I think, with Waugh being injured (and past his use by date) Australia could really do with another geniune open sider for the world cup. Smith's experience around the squad would be invaluable and provide excellent cover should Pocock and co be injured. I know this would be harsh on Hodgson and Robinson but it's a WC... and putting the 'best' team forward is what matters and that includes Smith in my opinion.
Discuss.

They should've cloned an Emergency George Smith years ago, kept in a glass case at ARU headquarters.

Wouldn't be a bad idea if they can't get Gill or Quirk from U20's. But I can't see it happening, Link has faith in Shatz to do the job.

No disagree Skippy he's gone we have to move on, I know if Pocock goes down we're in trouble but that's no different than the All Blacks & McCaw.

Robinson is back in 5 weeks & Hodgson has been brilliant whenever Pocock has been injured for the Force.

Only bought out once a month to mate with eligible females and have his hair shampooed and conditioned.

They used up all the glass reinforcing Barnes' and Horne's endo-skeletons.
Could they keep the Smith-droid in a paper bag?

Hold the phone, people on here have been rejoicing that Vickerman has is coming back and are welcoming his return to the Tahs (and even Wallabies).

Same with Rocky, he was given a sabbatical to go earn his millions and came back.

How is this any different?

I've already commented that I would love to see George help out at the Reds, thats if we can't get Gill or Quirk back.

Well, I haven't seen the Barbarians game, but if someone is saying he is up to it, I'm very prepared to believe it.

I love the idea.

The rejoicing has been muted - most are waiting to see if he is fit and in any form. Ditto to a large degree for Elsom now I would say.
Big difference - George made the call to head off, and fair enough. He served Oz rugby impeccably. Vickerman, and for that matter Elsom made the call to come back and give it a crack. Sure, they also left before that, but have indicated their desire to try at the highest level. Does anyone think George really wants to come and play a cameo in Super Rugby, for anyone?

If money took him over it can bring him back, yes?

He'll be able to say he was part of another super rugby title if they win, and it might in some round about way make him eligible for the world cup, should our top 3 or 4 open sides have freak injuries.

This thread is wildly unrealistic. The man made the choice to retire from Test footy. He's made himself ineligible so despite his excellent form in Europe I seriously doubt he'd have any interest in coming back no matter who was injured.
