So why don't we have Cheerleaders at the Waratah's games?

In keeping with Waratah tradition, I envisage a line of gorgeous blonds, dressed in jeans, topsiders and polo shirts, enacting an enchanting and uplifting routine involving lots stern gazes, raised eyebrows and exasperated sighing. To work the crowd at half time, they'd engage in a spirited, yet considered examination of the Waratahs club hierarchy, and lead everyone in a low volume chant/song titled "indoor voice only". For the finishing touch, most of them would leave half an hour early to beat the traffic out of Moore Park.

Reds members survey came through the email today.

The question of "How can we improve the overall experience" was a good enough opportunity to sneak in a request for the reintroduction of cheerleaders as far as I'm concerned. Let's hope they listen to the feedback.....

This may go against the grain, and cost me some man-points, but personally I don't like cheerleaders at all. Firstly, they aren't necessary. I go to rugby to watch the best game in the world, as I'm sure most people do. If we need entertainment, giive me a good curtain raiser over cheerleaders anyday. If I want to get turned on by dancing girls I'll go to a strip club. Secondly, I think they sexualise rugby when the game should be about promoting itself to families and couples. Call me a boring, married 30 something, but I find cheerleaders kind of degrading to the dancers themselves, and the crowd more generally who watches them.
