As others have mentioned, no coverage of the SS.

This decision is due to the ABC's budget being cut.

Rupert Murdoch, Tony Abbott, Malcolm Turnbull, Eric Abetz, etc. can go f@%& themselves.

An act of political bastardry.

Actions have consequences.

We may all need to take up the Government's marriage counselling offer now that the oasis that was the Shute Shield coverage is no more ...suddenly 3pm -5pm could now become a domestic black spot , or, the attendances skyrocket as we go for broke !

Shute Shield on the ABC has been discussed for years.
Was it;
The political party, or,
The Broadcaster that chose to stop it.

Theres obviously a lot of lovers of Saturday Rugby on the box, and I know of a truck load more who enjoy watching it whilst their primary choice is another code.

Maybe Commercial TV may see value in picking it up, or the likes of Bar TV, or Club Rugby TV.

My thoughts, we should be looking for opportunity now rather than complaining - guess what nobody is listening - sorry. My eye, club rugby is about us - you know what I reckon we can build something, and then have the pleasure of turning around and dropping our pants.

I'll miss the Shute shield. Unfortunately it was inevitable given crowd and audience numbers. We only have ourselves to blame.

It's a disappointing situation but ultimately, these type of outside broadcast sporting events are relatively expensive, and with the need to cut costs they were always likely to go. One would imagine that online distribution is the next step, with streaming and the like. Even if the ARU can't afford the $28k to each club, perhaps they could afford a fraction of that to back a live streaming service.

And maybe a little extra money to make sure Steve Robilliard and Brett Papworth are commentating, wouldn't want to listen to anyone else.

I will miss the ABC's SS coverage, and I won't be holding my breath that FTA will pick it up. Would be great if it happened, but given the almost total lack of interest shown by FTA in club rugby, NRC and Super Rugby to date, I think it's very unlikely.

That's not true at all, but it definitely did rate well, figures were 40-50k.

Rubbish qwerty. It's very true. Working in the industry, I am privy to those ratings. I'll fish them out (but will take a while to get them) when I have access on Monday.

You telling me Swans games, even the away ones rated less than 40k?

Apparently the W-League has had up to 3 networks interested in picking up the coverage, they reportedly have had ratings up to 100'000 for some of their matches?

The value of the ABC cuts roughly equals the cost of the school chaplaincy programme.

Hmm
