Shute Shield 2025

the coach

Bob Davidson (42)
Good performances from Kick-too-Farr Jones' nephew, Morgan Turiniu's son and Max Jorgensen's cousin. Oh, and also the dentist on the right wing. Randwick had an extended 12 man bench (with Eddie's approval) and mixed the team with lower graders and colts, as well as a few first graders. Worth a look on STAN if you haven't seen it.

Hunter win both grades and both Colts at Newcastle #2. Big result and a bit of a turnaround for the Woods after Southern Districts last week

Was there today!
Big crowd for Good Friday, love to see it.

Wildfires ran a 3rd colts in a friendly v Woods and they got up there as well.

Won in all three colts, two mens and the two womens games.

Close game though, could have gone either way with 10 to go.

predictions:

easts over norths in a close one
gordon over wests by plenty
randwick over parra by plenty
manly over souths, close first half then manly to just get over em 2nd half
uni over rats in a classic

Go Hunter. DC can put together Clubs.

Not taking away from the Rats as they thumped Uni but Uni had some changes with guys going to the Fiji with the Tahs. Always glad to see them lose though. Very young side

Rats backs were very good. Saunders, Marr, Miln and Ropati looked very dangerous every time they got the ball. The new half has also got a wicked pass.
Uni, easts and Wicks to get a thousand back from the tahs (including a whole front row+ for uni) but Rats will be in the finals.
Great to see Hunter playing good consistent footy.

Norths seem to be struggling as a club. Only 2 wins from 21 matches across the club to start the season. First grade seem very competitive but the remainder of the struggling big time, particularly their colts. I'd still expect their first grade to finish in the top 6.

Understand there were a lot of first graders moving on with either retirement or professional contracts (particularly MLR) but there seems to be a steep decline throughout the rest of the club.

Great to see Souths win over Manly. That is a massive response following their huge loss to Eastwood a week earlier.

They’ve built a club focused purely on 1st grade and recruiting it. If your a bloke who loves the joint in 4th grade, 1st grade couldn’t give a shit about you. Pay your rego so we can pay rent for an international player. Their Colts have been bad for years now whilst they sit in a great catchment. Strong 1st grade performances have masked a weak Club it seems. That comes from management

Sad to see.

I guess they had a great run with the Sinclair brothers, Burey brothers, Will Miller, Michael Wells, Garry Bautz etc. Seems as though Simon Cron recruited 1st Graders that bought into the club culture whilst Zak Beer hasn't managed to do so.

They also had a core group of 4th Graders who managed a few grand final appearances over the years but have now all seemed to have moved on.

Masking club performance with "recruited" first graders doesn't work long term. You need to continue developing colts and lower graders to ensure there's some organic first graders playing for your club rather than new recruits every year.
