Don’t reckon anyone would have picked the round. Hunter over the Rats is huge and Eastwood over Wicks.

How good. @wamberal99 must be happy.

Rats score 2 tries in last 4 mins to make score misleading. They looked very disjointed with all the new faces but on their day the backline looks to have plenty of points in it. Wildfire has a workman like pack good across the set piece. A very good win for them.

What a cracking first week of rugby. It certainly looks like a lot of teams, with their new faces, are still trying to wrinkle out some combinations and cohesion, as expected.

Gordon and Hunter have a pretty stable 1st team with added power in couple of positions, i think that helps cohesion really well.

parra, west harbour and souths all having 4 grades is really good to see. parra were pretty close/competitive in 1s, 2s and 3s, and souths did well in the 3s and 4s, only fairs well for what i call the normal struggling clubs. (all based on club champ results for last few years)

Its going to be a close season for sure i think!

Uni were very very good!

Still got juniors but the first grade team is from all over the joint.

Not fair to just single them out as it's fairly common in 1st Grade but they are one of the most prolific. Coaches want to elevate themselves so go looking for the best available.

Easts are now picking up a lot of the local talent now.

Also the decline of the sport in the public and catholic system is party to blame. A lot more Randwick BH, Matraville and Marcellein boys played for the Wicks back in the day.
I don't believe Matraville even has a boys 15s rugby program these days, just 7s

If you're looking for something to do next Tuesday, Wicks are playing Eddie Jones' Japan u23 team at Coogee Oval at 2pm.
Also on STAN.

Not sure what this means (if anything!) but here are the round 1 results with player points in brackets:

West Harbour 26 (87) v Uni 59 (80)
Souths 10 (63) v Easts 45 (64)
Manly 38 (59) v Norths 41 (60)
Eastwood 39 (62) v Randwick 36 (48)
Hunter 36 (67) v Rats 27 (80)
Two Blues 30 (64) v Gordon 39 (37)

A few players with 0 points tba

All teams well under the 100 point cap without their Waratahs etc.

Some big scores out there. 80/17 isn’t a good sign for Southern.
