Shute Shield 2023

Their Colts 1 were very weak in 2021 and were beaten by some very large margins and then dropped out of the comp after only a handful of matches. I am pretty sure that they conceded 100 points in at least 1 of these games; possibly 2. Agreed re 1st Grade.
Correct it was something like 7 games minus 600 for and against in 2021, colts is a tougher space for us but we are slowly getting there , next year will be our first year as a under 20 team

I hate to bag a club level referee, but it seemed that just about every rolling maul near the line resulted in a penalty try and a yellow card. I lost count. Eastwood beat the Rats - basketball scores.

Norths would have been up for it after a heavy loss the week before.

Gordon humming along at the moment and will gain Vailanu, Walton, Goddard post Super rugby. Eastwood seem to have got it together after a shaky start even though conceding 41 isn’t ideal.

Eastwood looked terrible for the first 30. I really thought we were going to lose. Then Batger made some changes for the second half (dunno what his strategy is) and we rolled them. Too many penalty tries and yellow cards, mostly to the Rats.

Ben Dowling has been playing excellent for Randwick at fullback. I would like to see him get some more game time with Tahs, but ultimately playing the full 80 at club level is going to exponentially make him a better player than playing 10 mins at super rugby.

Back in top 4:).

I remember season thoughts 5 weeks back:).

Nowhere is safe on the table given Souths have beaten the top 2, hope they don't make it top 3 on the weekend:)

What a top 4.

Most consistent Randwick has been in a long time which I don’t like.

I genuinely thought the Rats would be better than that but tackling seems optional from what I’ve seen.

If you don't come switched on and ready to play then anyone in this comp can beat the opposition on their day. No doubt the Wildfires had eyes on their game this week against Gordon then doing the job against Souths. Competition across all the first grade teams only makes for better players and a better standard. Closest comp in years this one. The influx of Super rugby guys over the next month will be significant for different clubs.

I was thinking about that and how Uni usually have half a squad rock up but it's not really the case this year as much. It will be spread across a few of them except for Hunter, Southern Districts, Warringah

A lot could depend on if the interstate boys can come back and play in Sydney. Talakai made a difference for Uni last year. Norths would love to have Burey and Debreczini has played for West Harbour every chance he's had it seems and makes a big impact for them.

Realistically & I know they will be on leave for a couple of weeks now but who do we expect from the 7's squad come back to club rugby?

I would say Clements back to Uni
Paterson to Easts
Turner maybe to Norths

Paterson has moved past a few of them & was in the years dream team. Last year when Roche was all the rage he never strolled out for the two blues. Lancaster I could see getting a run at the beasties & Turner I hope so!

Lancaster likely to be with U20s the entire time. Back by finals I guess. Easts have to hold on without Bowen and Wilson for a number of rounds.

They will get bunch of guys back post Super Rugby, U20s WC and injury. Marolt, Holz, Bowen, Wilson, Harris, Tuipulotu, Gamble

Another big round of Shute Shield tomorrow. Top of the table clash at Chatswood Oval. A few injuries for Gordon and four other players in NZ for the Waratahs may make it difficult. It will be a chance for the table topping reserve grade boys to step up. Wildfires will fancy themselves getting the chocolates.

Uni have a few at the Force. If J.Gordon is out of favour, he could have a significant impact on Shute.
