Shute Shield 2022

Probably Gordon's best performance of the year. Mahe Vailanu by far the best player in the competition. An absolute freak and as tough as nails. His work rate in both attack and defence is phenomenal. McGregor controlled the game brilliantly and Norths were never in it.
Uni very lucky to survive with Eastwood dominating the last 10 minutes. Edmed a very good player who will only learn from the experience.
Very interesting GF coming up with two dominant forward packs and the scrum will be critical to the result.

I have to give a plug to the burgers (run by the Dee Why Hotel) at Warringah yesterday. They were excellent and good value too. Definitely the best burger that I have had at a suburban rugby ground.

Watched the replays today,2 really different games. Even the commentary for the Norths game was far superior, hopefully we don't hear any more dribble from Tom Coolican (Mr uni ) for the GF.

Anyone know what happened to Tom Silk? Was a gun in their premiership run.
I thought that as well. Did the pre season with the Tahs but haven't seen anything more of him.

Can't really see any references to him with any team (20 second google tbf) tough gig being a 6 in NSW at the moment. Plenty of talent in the SS besides the Tahs current backrow options.

Any news on how the two teams pulled up after Sunday? Saw the Uni coach on clubland with Tim Horan and they did an immediate recovery at Collaroy beach Sunday afternoon.
Gordon have some busted up players after three sudden death games but they are battle hardened and won't back down and looking to a tight finish again.

Think they may be OK from looking very outward in. Additions of Goddard, McGregor gave them instant depth with the likes Emery on the bench and allowing Macdonald to play Fullback where he seems to be most effective. Not having their 2nd Grade in the prelims has also given the forwards some cover like Fraser, Mitchell etc who were part of the last GF.

Really looking forward to the big dance. Hopefully the weather holds off

He missed another chance in the first half, too. Someone who was at the game posted on Facebook that they had a two man overlap on the left when the field goal attempt was made. Grrrrr.
He won't like seeing the replay of that. Probably blinkered into thinking he had to make up for his missed shots at goal?

Maybe he thought he should shoulder the responsibility, who knows? He might even not know himself, lots of pressure on him. On the other hand, Manly would have beaten us the week before except for an inspired defensive play he executed to get under the pill after a rolling maul by Manly breached our line.

That's what I thought to. It's Rugby at the end of the day. There will be a penalty given even though the whistle does tend go into the pocket in those situations.

Of course they shouldn’t. But he did. Shit happens. It was a very easy drop goal which makes the decision to go for it correct.
Yes. If the options are drop goal from 20 m in front, pass left with a possible overlap, or keep recycling waiting for a penalty, I think the droppie is the best of the three in most situations. We might criticise Edmed for trying to win it himself, but I have to respect a skipper and 10 who takes that responsibility when the pressure's on.
