I don't think most 3rd\4th grade coaches would be up to standard for a 1st grade coaching gig. Many 1st colts coaches are quality coaches, and I think the colts comp has gone ahead in leaps and bounds in the past few year, and in part that has to be because of the coaching. Some 2nd grade coaches probably have been at clubs for a while, so it could be the players, current 1st grade players, dictating whether they want that person or not, or that coach doesn't want the responsibility of looking after 1st grade as well as having input into other grades - sometimes I think a 1st grade coach should be a full-time gig, but not many clubs have the money to pay full-time coaches.
