Manly Easts dates up now

Manly and Easts will meet across Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th:

TUESDAY 14TH - Manly Oval
2ND Grade 6.15pm Manly Oval
1ST Grade 7.45pm Manly Oval

WEDNESDAY 15th - Manly Oval
4TH Grade 6.30pm Manly Oval
3RD Grade 7.40pm Manly Oval
COLTS 3rd Manly Forfeit
COLTS 2nd Manly Forfeit

Now I just need to decide if drive to Forshaw or Ferry to Manly.. might be two trips to Manly Oval in a few days - Parma and pint night at 4 Pines or stuck in traffic?

The 2's and 3's colts forfeits are if accurate are a disgrace and a reflection of a sad decline in the Marlins' colts fortunes . Much of Manly's success over the past decade has been down to its strong colts (locals) program and players graduating to grade . Discuss.

^^^^ It is usually the Eastern Suburbs Folk that head to Thredders for the June Long Weekend. The exodus to the Chalets usually makes it difficult for the Beasties to find the numbers for games on the Long Weekend.

Not a good sign for the MMM. The Colts 3 team has also forfeited a couple of games in the early rounds. Pretty sure in 2014 MMM nearly won the Colts 3 and Colts 2 GF's. Where have all the numbers gone?

One of the strongest behind the scenes guys at MMM colts has a son well & truly graduated to Main grades, actually to Super rugby & beyond. They would be missing him!

There's a time lag in colts between cause and effect. If there's a lack of players now, it reflects a lack of recruiting in the season before and probably to an extent the one before as well. i.e what happened at the end of 2014 and possibly also the end of 2013? Either there wasn't enough done to get numbers in or the boys that the did get in where underwhelmed by what they found. From my knowledge of how colts run, the former is more likely than the latter.

Really poor form to forfeit matches unless there has been a run or serious injuries or something like a gastro bug going through a club. I can never recall us forfeiting two grades of colts - ever. In fact until this year, we'd probably never forfeited one grade.

I haven't looked through team sheets but were Manly using the same players in 2nd and 3rd grade colts like Penrith were and perhaps have started to get injuries and drop outs as per most clubs at this time of the season and beyond.

I don't think disgrace is an appropriate word poorly managed might be a better way to describe the issue that is apparent.

Manly are lucky they have a functioning grade system as well as a balance sheet that allows appropriate expenditure on fixing the problem otherwise they could well be facing the years like Gordon is currently experiencing i.e a significant re build.

Warringah had issues last season on the beaches with a 3rd grade colts side and Norths used the lowest number of players in the competition last season. Three seasons ago Gordon had one team.

Warringah clearly got the better players this season from both clubs area (St Augustines).

Not only those clubs but obviously Parramatta and Penrith have had recent troubles in fielding three grades as well.

Clubs do go through these issues from time to time if some poor decision making is made and it can be hard to reverse the reputation.

DB pretty quiet on this one?
I think it's a disgrace.

Been busy with work, and just logged in.

Well I think I know of the person you are talking about - shoot me a PM.
This would be an accurate comment that allot of clubs can relate to, strong teams often align themselves with passionate parents who contribute allot of hours.

Fair go. Club rugby is not a business, it is pretty much run by volunteers on the smell of an oily rag or two.

Thanks man, yep volunteers, and a whole lot more the small 1%er's that make things work. Stressed / Worried no because I believe systems are in place - frustrated yes but not at anyone involved because they are all working on it.

Bob Davidson (42)
Looks to me like they've just decided to avoid having to play 2 games in a few days as both teams are out of the running for the playoffs. Not good if that's the case, but I guess it's understandable if they're struggling for players anyway.

* Assume that the Sir Roden Cutler VC Shield Challenge Rules relate to chronological sequence of home ground games played by the holder, and not the sequence published in the Draw. The deferred match from Round 12 for the current holder of the Shield will be played after the Round 13 fixture. If the Woodies beat the Hobbits on Saturday and then the Pirates also defeat the Hobbits on Tuesday night, things could get tricky as to who was the current Shield holder going into round 14.

The Galah

Darby Loudon (17)
Having lit the fuse I thought I'd again note how profoundly disappointed I am at the precipitous decline of MMM's fortunes, having previously spruiked its success in past years.
There is no doubt on field grade successes over several seasons was reflected in strong colts performances and transition to grade level . Coaching quality is good and the reasons are complex and I accept injuries have played their part but forfeiting 2 out of 3 games in a club with the pedigree and resources of MMM's is unacceptable regardless of whether finals football is possible or not.

I believe the strong behind the scenes parent referred to above is still (thankfully) very much involved and remains passionate in his commitment to Manly rugby like a few others who have made contact with me today.

Darby Loudon (17)
i should add by way of clarification the precipitous decline I refer to in para 1 above is confined to colts . I fully expect all grades to feature in finals .

He is Galah, with grand new plans, and yes he presides over these pages regularly but is a very shy quite character and doesn't post.

Well, I am sure it's just a matter of time 'til the MMM bounce back - I just hope it's not today.

MTB to sneak home on top of a ferocious forward effort. I'd expect the physical collisions to be heard and felt as far away as the Manly Wharf.

Reckon it will be a cracker today, hence I will be there cheering the MTBs on
Think Lucas might be the difference though and MMMs will have too big a lead with 20 left but will be less than a score by FT
