Whatever happened to another former Rat 9 who went to Manly in expectation of greatness and disappeared? Jack Rowntree. For a while there he was touted as the next Gregan by Manu Sutherland and his band of merry men making rockstars out of 14 year olds
Anyone got a list of the 2004/5/6 NTS (National Talent Squad which I think it was called then) members, and where they are now? They will be in their mid-late 20's now and should have reached their rugby "peak".
Historically less than 1/2 the Australian Schoolboys go on to pro Rugby.
Does the Koala Club have a better conversion rate?
I found a programme from 2004 State Champs buried in the Jarse Archives during a recent cleanup. Not many of the rockstars that were being developed by the Districts in 2004 have kicked on to pro rugby a decade later, let along Shute Shield First Grade.
It would seem that the cream will rise to the surface, despite the efforts of those charged with managing the process to help said cream to rise.
These were the supposed elite U18's chosen for ASRU duties in 2006. 10 seasons later, where are they now, and what have they achieved rugbywise in the intervening period*?

* Not every player selected for ASRU teams desires to make rugby their career, or even their main sporting priority post school.
Edit: It appears that the NTS concept only started in 2004. For a number of years there was also an AIS Development Squad of even more elite folk running in parallel with the NTS. The National Gold Squad (and Junior Gold Squad) package seems to have arrived on the scene around 2010 or so, replacing the NTS.
