Carter comes across as a dickhead and that's all I've ever seen in his behaviour on the pitch for Uni. The rest of the blokes look to be just good hard footy players, but not him. There will be Uni fans who will say I'm unfair and I'll cop that, but I can only judge him by what I've seen in the Shield on telly for the last decade.

It's hard to comment in some respects as I've never met the bloke, but the word you coming out of many who have met him isn't positive. Plus he carries on like a pork chop. There's being competitive, and then there's what he does. Not a good look.

My 'personal experiences' at Wests are limited to those of a visitor, but sounds like you had some unhappy campers. Looks like the season says more about the accuracy of my observations than your sense of indignation

As I said your post is indicative of someone with an axe to grind against the West Harbour club. I personally had no "unhappy campers' ? , I'm simply responding to your accusations against the club which clearly you know little about.If by "unhappy campers" you are referring to the two players who dropped out during the year,you should do a little homework,which would show you that these two players have a habit of moving from club to club & have done so several times in the past at other clubs,one of which includes the club which you indicate you support,Randwick. "unhappy campers" ,as you refer to them ,are present in every club ,as is evidenced by player movements between clubs every year. If ,as you claim, you are basing your condemnations of Wests on the fact that your "personal experiences at Wests are limited to those of a visitor" ,which incidentally sounds highly unlikely, then your knowledge of the club & it's workings should be judged accordingly, as should your comments.

This Uni fan agrees with you - I find his behaviour very strange at best. What he did after the try was just spiteful. He finishes this year. Good thing for the game, and a relief for some of us Student die hards.

Enjoyed the way Norths played. But can someone explain how and why Michael Dowsett and Michael Wells both turned out for Norths?

Dowsett was playing for Uni-Norths in Canberra as recently as last week and Wells was with the Brumbies up until last week. I thought players had to have played four games with the SS side to take part in the finals.

Wells has signed with the Tahs for next year, but what is Dowsett's status? Has he also signed for NSW?

Good to see Stephan van der Walt get game time too. He had a big impact in attack and defense for Norths.

Having now seen the incident being talked about it is clear he is a bad role model. I suspect he is a self centred publicity seeking person who did this to get attention.
Furthermore, should the governing body be sincere about foul play, he should be cited and suspended - after all he deliberately struck a player in the back of the head who was on the ground and unable to defend himself. If this is overlooked there is a dangerous precedent set.
Good riddance to him.

BUT - I think, seriously, he may have a psychological problem that has been rewarded when it should have been addressed.Tim Davidson, this year's most brilliant coach, would look at what happened and think - Uggh!
I am a Student's fan because we paid our dues and worked out how to get ahead. I was a fan when we looked at the possibility of playing in the subbies.
I am a students fan now because when my son went to Uni he had a 10 minute walk to play for Uni.
I am a student die hard because so many of our players come from the bush to uni and get a chance to play for their, now, local team.
But - I am often embarrassed by the arrogance of the Uni College system, the support for Carter, and the shithead superstars who come to show us how superior they are.
Hey, but what about your family motto? there must be a Latin scholar around here somewhere!

Thanks for your heartfelt comments. When I was a kid the University of Sydney was a hallowed and highly respected institution. Many of my schoolmates went on to study there. I was too lazy to make it that way, fortunately I landed on my feet when the computer age dawned, and it transpired that I had what it took to make it that way.


In those days Uni was a pretty good club, but the difference was that most of their players moved on when they graduated. Some gave the game up, but many went on to play for district clubs.


The University of Sydney has some huge advantages as a rugby centre. Most fair minded supporters wonder why they do not do more for the game outside Camperdown.

Are the eligibility rules of SS a total joke?
As contracted players of the Brumbies , Dowsett and Wells are required to play in the JID - the local ACT competition .
How can they possibly be eligible to then turn out in a semi- final for Norths . It's a farce.
I keep reading about special dispensation. Have we created some precedents which are now being used by clubs to make ineligible players , eligible.
Shall we have some special dispensation and totally ignore the player points rule. ?

Great win by Norths today and I give them a chance of beating Uni next week.

As for Carter, I'd love to see him standing under the sticks in the 78th minute with Uni unable to win. A bonus would be him starting some stupid shit and getting a smack in the mouth for it. That would be quite fitting.

Were it not for his presence I wouldn't mind Uni winning. They're a good club, with plenty of hard grafters (like their coach) who just happen to have built a great system.

I'm all for clubs doing the hard yards, and certainly Uni wasn't always the dominant force it now is, but I think there are some major concerns in the competition that need to be addressed.

There are a number of clubs that are perennially at the foot of the ladder, not just in 1s but right throughout. Without an in depth understanding of the details of those clubs, I would hazard that they would not have the ability to pull together the resources/opportunities that some other clubs are able to access.

This is not an attack on successful clubs. But we as a sport are ceding a substantial portion of Sydney to other codes. This is an issue at a SRU / NSWRU and I daresay an ARU level.

When Uni colts (combined) have a winning record of over 90% over the last 15 years, as compared to Penrith which has a record of less than 10% over that same time period, you have a problem.
