Finals Watch Update:
My understanding is the finals series will be the following format:
Week 1: 1 vs 6, 2 vs 5, 3 vs 4
Week 2: Top Ranked Winner vs Highest Ranked Loser, 2nd Ranked Winner vs 3rd Ranked Winner
Week 3: Grand Final - Winners of Week 2 games.

On that basis then, using the round 17 ladder we have:
Manly vs Randwick, Eastwood vs Sydney University, , and Southern Districts vs Warringah in Week 1 of the Finals.

The Run home:
Manly - Currently 72 points. Randwick (H) - Should win and take the 4T BP to finish on 77 points
Eastwood - Currently 70 points. Warringah (H) - Should win and take the 4T BP to finish on 75 points
Southern Districts - Currently 61 points. West Harbour (A) - Should win and take the 4T BP to finish on 66 points
Warringah - Currently 56 points. Eastwood (H) - Should lose but take a BP to finish on 57
Sydney University - Currently 53 points. Northern Suburbs (H) - Should win with a 4T BP to finish on 58 points
Randwick - Currently 52 points. Manly (H) - should lose but take a BP to finish on 53 points
Northern Suburbs - Currently 46 points. Sydney University (A) - Should lose but may take a BP to finish on 47 points.

Manly, Eastwood and Southern Districts have locked the top three positions for Finals. It's anyones guess what the order of the next three will be, but they will be Sydney University, Warringah and Randwick.

52 points is the cut off for the top six. Even if the rest win their final game with a 4T BP, they are goooone.
West Harbour on 43 points are out of the running for a top 6 finish even if they beat Southern Districts (H) with a 4T BP they can not finish ahead of Randwick currently in 6th on 52 points.
Gordon on 37 points are out of the running for a top 6 finish even though they should take max points from Penrith. They will finish with 42 points, well shy of the required 52 points.


The Jarseometer prediction for Finals week 1 is now:
Manly vs Randwick, Eastwood vs Warringah, Southern Districts vs Sydney University.

While Finals Knockout footy is anyones game, I can see Finals Week 2 being:
Manly v Sydney University, Eastwood v Southern Districts.

As tough as this is to say as a both a Wicks and a Tahs fan watching Horwitz today has me thinking that he really needs to be chasing more opportunity to play at a higher level fairly soon. While I'm happy for him to be in the Tahs stable I think he needs more opportunity to develop further.

It's something I have to applaud Ben Volavola on doing. He saw he wasn't likely to get an opportunity soon and looked elsewhere. While I would have preferred for him not have gone done the Fiji route internationally more a couple of seasons at the Crusaders and then give Aus another crack. You really cannot begrudge him chasing the opportunity.

I'd much prefer Horwitz to stay here but perhaps a stint in Europe providing it's the right club at the right level it could prove a huge benefit to both his development and our playmaking stocks in the not too distant future.

I've only seen a couple of games with Hodge playing and he looks a good prospect. Has a boot on him that's for sure. From what I've seen he needs probably a good NRC and maybe another club season to develop his game and perhaps a little more physically as well. He's already a big lump but I think with a little harder edge he'd make the transition more seamlessly.

getting to the pointy end of the Comp and am thinking Uni might have the side to take it out. Up until 2 weeks ago would have put the house on Manly however all the top 6 have had a few wobbles. Think Souths might also surprise.

Coogee Oval has been in great condition for several years now.
Although we all get pissed off at the council for insisting on lower grade games being moved to Latham they have done a great job looking after the Oval and keeping it in good condition. It also recovers quickly from heavy rain. Pity the same can't be said for the scoreboard / time clock which failed again on Saturday. Thanks to the Assistant Referee on the eastern touch line on Saturday for keeping the crowd up to date with time remaining as you can't hear the PA over there either.

BTW, Wicks have only lost 1 game at Coogee this year (v Manly) and have stacked up home wins against Warringah, Uni, Southern and now Eastwood. So although they have only just snuck into the finals again it's a big improvement on the last 2 years where they struggled against the other top 6 teams and Coogee didn't provide any home ground advantage.

I don't think both of them are looking at careers outside AUS just using the ITM for $$ and development rather than the NRC. Pretty sure Mike is still contracted to the Tahs. Both would be starters the Country team IMO.

Mike didnt play on Saturday and has given up his Tahs contract to try and get a gig with a NZ team.
Also Rory Clegg (played for Pirates 2nd half of this season) has been signed by Glasgow for world cup cover.

I believe the competition rules state that a player must play at least 2 games for his club to play in the finals, even if he's been absent playing S15.

Is that correct, in which case Dennis could not play in the finals if this is his first game?

Unless he receives special dispensation of course
