Its official as Grier is now listed on the Gordon website as assistant coach. Coaching is about the cattle that you have at your disposal, sounds harsh but an element of truth there. Gordon should have committed solid players so with that core group, they should go well considering they don't stress on the return of S15 players for end of season results as much as say a Uni or Rats etc. Time will tell.

Will the points system work next year?

How will the points system work for any Darkness imports? Are there similar "penalties" for S15, Provincial rep players applying to any Darkness or PI imports as apply to ARU rep players?

Would hardly seem fair if a bloke like Frewen (ITM Cup Canterbury centre) could play for a TNSS club without points penalty to the club.

I can confirm that the points apply no matter which country that you play Super Rugby for.

I suppose the influx of rockstars in the final few rounds will be reduced.

This must bode well for the non-traditional strongholds.

Yep, that was a sad day for the Woodies. Scott Staniforth was just a kid back then, he was really found out positionally by the Manly centres, lots of short kicks. (He played full back that day, for the benefit of those who were not there).

Talk about going back to the future. If they can do better than NSWRU to promote club rugby, then bring it on. I'm concerned about their operational budget and the inpact on SJRU. Hugh, I agree you are right about a need for change.

Lily, you have hit on one of my hot topics.

Rugby at all levels needs to sort its shit out in an integrated manner. Juniors, Schools, Colts, Districts Premier Clubs, Suburban Clubs, Country Unions, Metropolitan Unions, Golden Oldie, Womens, Sevens, Beach Rugby, State, National Rugby pathways need to sort themselves out and all strive in the same direction. At the moment, I think it is all over the place like a mad Hippopotomus's shit with very little cohesion and coordination between the various stakeholder groups.

Unfortunately, entrenched interests within each of the stakeholder groups, and a lack of moral fortitude and vision at the highest administrative levels in rugby mean that the currant morass will remain for the foreseeable future.

You forgot the one level that matters the most, the ARU. They collect the cash and need to drive the agenda on a national basis. I spoke to a member of a state board recently and it seems relations are frosty with the ARU. As they say the fish rots from the head and rugby administration is on the nose right now, with far too many layers of entrenched bureacracy with their own petty agendas. As well as managing international politics with the IRB O'Neill needs to get his own house in order.

A cohesive, nationwide plan and framework from the ARU leadership would be a good start.

Great reflection on Hooper who is a class act. I could not understand Manly playing him at centre last year, he seemed a bit lost. No doubt he will shine in 2011 in his favoured position.

Mmmm, Canberra have a nice comp going with 2 or 3 clubs that would probably beat the bottom 3 or 4 Shute shield clubs.

It would be a shame to devalue it, even if I obviously understand why.

Canberra have had several tilts previously at Shute Shield.

The outcome of internecine politics with the Sydney Clubs was the ejection of the invaders from the Monaro Plains.

Can't see this happening again unless there is some deal whereby they play under the banner of say Penrith or Parramatta.

Can't see the ACT powerbrokers agreeing to that.
