Movement at Souths. Max Curry shown the door. Current 1st Grade coach booted. Steve Talbot new Head coach, Scott Bowen backs coach. Fingers crosesed the next $500k they spend will make them a decent club....

Did Vuna and Palmer play?

Yes they all played with Cooper Vuna playing at IC scoring their only try. They also had the Brumbies Ita Vea at 8 and I also think Faulkner the Force new recruit played at prop.
Wests scored 4 tries to one with referee Leckie keeping Souths in the game with some bewildering penalties.
The only Super 15 players for Wests were Rodney Blake and Rory Sidey who both came through Wests juniors so it just shows cheque books dont always win games.

That was a great win for WH considering Wykes left on Thursday to play at Eastwood. It's a pitty Blake will be in QLD this weekend and can't play vs Uni. I hope Sidey marks Inman in the centres as this will be a great clash.

Pardon my lack of knowledge guys but who won the game between the winner of the Shute Shield and Hospital Cup in 2011? Also what is it called.

I know it was a Qld side and I'm interested in which one it was.

Qld Uni beat Syd Uni by plenty. Brothers and Easts Brisbane also have beaten Syd Uni in the previous 2 years.

Kiethy you need to take your meds so you can read between the lines. The issue of forfeits relates to your quote. These 2 Eastern Seaboard teams have struggled to put all teams on the field. I dont understand why you cant be constructive but I guess you are another one of these elitist prats who think that the GPS competition and a few teams like Uni are the be all and end all.
Yes the issue of them not being able to meet all competition rules is problematic but can you propose an alternative? I doubt it. Maybe we could kick the 2blues out and Emus out and then promote the 2 best performing subbies clubs which this year is Drummoyne and Colleagues.
Easts wouldn't have to far for a homegame and nor would West Harbour.
In relation to your AND TOP 6 TEAMS. The Rats are 22 points out of 6th place at the moment. If they were able to field a team which included Pek Cowan, Luke Holmes,Salesi Manu(OZUnder 20s), Hugh Pyle, Michael Lipman, Beau Robinson, Brett Sheehan, Danny Cipriani, Pat McCabe,Mark Gerrard and Hamish Angus(oz Sevens) would they be worthy or do they still not meet your criteria..
Anyway you have totally missed the point of the discussion.

Sorry lily I don't fit your stereo type, not from the GPS system and I support Uni because my country friends play there. If NSW rugby put those resources going into Penrith into the bush areas like the Central West, North West, New England and Riverina I'm positive NSW would get a better return in player numbers and player quality.
Next, that Warringah team will never play together this season. Robinson plays for Souths in Brisbane now not Warringah. Yep I have a Shute Shield comp of 10 teams, 2 rounds, 4 team finals 3 grade 2 colts, 2 wet weather weekends. No Emus in this comp. no Emus on FTA.

It was remiss of me not to mention a rare win for the Rats last Saturday beating Gordon 48-21

The Rats had a few Super players back though McCabe and Gerrard weren't allowed to play, and we could see why later in the week.

It was good to see a couple of decent props on the park for us. Cowan is a good LHP at the club level and Salesi Manu wore the 3 jersey. He's not much of a THP (being a specialist LHP) but he was still streets ahead of the dross we have played with until now. "Gomer" Pyle made a difference in the 2nd row and 13. Smouha and 15. Angus (from Oz 7s) had blinders.

Cipriani wasn't as good as against Manly but some of his quixotic things were pretty special. I wonder what he spent his $200 win money on?

Gordon had all the ball in the 1st half but they couldn't catch and pass - and were 12-7 down at oranges. They were poor in most things and their strike player, Berryman, went off with a serious looking hammy injury.

Can we not dwell on the fta rights or an arc like competion or even how many games that can be shown on any given weekend. When possible surely 1 vs 2 is the most wothy game for the spectator unless it is week 2 or 3 of the competion. Slash who I sometimes disagree with brings up a great point that people such as Keithy continue to overlook. Exposure equals sponsorship due to the companies logo or product being in the public eye. Increased sponsorship equates to money which can be directed into securing your players and in the recruitment of other players. These lower clubs are effectively being hung out to dry and his comment about a seaboard competition will be a disaster for rugby. I also agree that in the first round evey team should be shown at least once.
As of the weekend Penrith had scored 43 tries, 2Blues 42, Souths 42, Wests 46, Gordon 45 and Rats 42 so it is not as if some of these teams are boring. Penrith and Parramatta average over 3 a game and their leading try scorer is equal 3rd. He's their fullback Ateloa Okati I wonder if he goes well in a counter stuation. I guess most of us will never know.
Finally the Emus have 2 players with S14/15 experience Keithy plus a few Islander internationals.

Love it!

Berryman has been their best player this year, but he and his mate, the tighthead, Travis Church started off the bench. Would love to know why........have they been naughty boys?

Slash I just hope nest year Penrith and Parramatta can field 3 colts sides each and meet one of the basic requirements to play in the grade comp. But hey, lets ignore that and leave it to the eastern suburbs and northern beaches to field enough teams to make these competitions.

A typical head in the sand response. Predictable from someone of an elitist view. you make mention in a later comment of the resources that are thrown into Penrith......can you clarify just what those resources are? I'm sure Penrith would LOVE to know what they are.

As for your above comment, it is clear you have no idea whatsoever on the struggle the code is having in the western suburbs of Sydney. So I will draw a picture for you.

The two biggest junior rugby league districts in the world are Penrith and Parramatta. Penrith has 20,000 registered juniors and the eels have 15,000 registered juniors. In contrast, rugby union has 20, 000 registered juniors...............in the entire State. young rugby players in these 2 districts (as they do in other districts also) play both codes across the weekend. The difference is though, that a promising young rugby player has the option of going to play for Penrith Emus for nothing (and has to pay his rego fees etc) or he can go to St Mary's League and get $500 a game. And have his all his gear provided free of charge.

The biggest challenge rugby is facing is the influx of the GWS AFL side. They are in all schools in the area. They have gone on the public record and said they want to recruit young pacific islanders into the game. Rugby league has seen the invasion and decided the gloves are off and have started to contribute financially directly to the junior clubs to keep the kids in the game. What has the ARU done?

Another stat for you Keithy, 60% of the Waratahs, played either all of their school rugby or all of their junior rugby in the western suburbs. Though only one of them stayed loyal to his region................TPN. Maybe there should be a rule that clubs are not allowed to provide free scholarships to certain educational institutions. Or perhaps for the colts competition, all players MUST play for their local club.......then we would see who would struggle to field 3 grades of colts pretty quick!!

Wish the Eastwood Vs Manly game was the tv game this week but can understand how you can't have eastwood 3 weeks in a row.
It will be Manly and their power game Vs the speed and skills of Eastwood should be a cracker.
Do the non playing wallabies get released? The idea of Batger, Turner and Grant as a back 3 for Eastwood would be sensational and very fast.

Bill Watson (15)
I dont think there is an issue of it was Eastwood 3 weeks in a row.................they are clearly the benchmark and the general consensus seems to be that 1 v 2 is the most preferred. Easts v Randwick, though there will be undoubted passion, will be nowhere near the quality of the Eastwood v Manly game.

I think if Eastwood had 3 in a row people would suggest it's Brett Papworths influence. But i agree with you slash 1 vs 2 should be shown and if you are a top team you have in a way earned the right to have more tv games....people will (and have) disagreed with that

Slash, I wouldn't waste your time with Keithy as he clearly is out of his depth on this topic and his ideas are simplistic and quite simply wrong. My advice is to never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experience. I do sometimes wonder about Papworths influence as I in the past have said that he shouldn't commentate on their games as sometimes I can detect a fair bit of bias towards his team.

The concept of Colts players MUST play for their local club is ridiculous. They are 18 FFS if they want to move and play elsewhere who are you to prevent that?

If people in an area don't want to play or watch a sport, they don't have to. If they want to watch and play league or AFL let them. Why would you get into a bidding war (by offering funds) with them.

I do agree that the ARU does not spend enough at club level compared to what it does at the State and National level but there is no point in flogging a dead horse.

Slash here are some more Waratahs who stayed local; Baxter- Norths, Cross - Easts, Perrett - Eastwood, Turner - Eastwood, Holmes - Warringah, Palu - Manly, Horne - Southern, Batger - Eastwood. Now if players are to play at their local club then TPN moves to Randwick since he lives in Moore Park or is Sydney Uni closer(going down Cleveland St) and since Palu lives with him, Cliffy would look good in blue and gold.

Holmes abandoned the Rats to play for the Woodies. Also Cliffy did the same after coming back from league as he went from the Marlins to the Rats.

Keithy, do I need to draw a more simpler picture for you? Obviously my comment 'perhaps for the colts competition, all players MUST play for their local club' confused you to players now many years out of colts...........

Also, Cliffy does not live with TPN. Cliffy lives on the northern beaches. TPN lives in the inner city. Are you serious that Cross 'stayed local?' Lily makes the point of Holmes and Cliffy's departure. Its only a matter of time before Turner goes to play for Norths, to follow in the footsteps of his old man. But all this is missing the point I made. Uni dominance has f@*ked the Colts comp. And nothing has been done about it. Here's one for ya Keithy. The Sydney Uni Foundation has raised $2.9 million dollars to April 2009. This is proudly displayed on the board in their grandstand. I noticed it last week. So the question I ask is, why should Uni continue to receive the exact same amount of $$ by way of a grant from NSWRU as what Penrith do? With federally funded facilities at the Uni, plus the $ they receive from the corporates, should their grant be given to the financially weaker clubs.

Finally, I am still waiting for you to clarify what resources the ARU and NSWRU pour into Penrith, though I will not be holding my breath waiting for your response.............
