As much as AFLW is a Juggernaut in this country, you don't get to travel around the world represent your country, go to the Olympics + comm games & world cup.

Plus she had the chance to be the face of rugby for women in this country.
7s circuit is appealing to 19-23 year olds I reckon. Not sure much in your late 20s when you might be looking to settle down and not travel all the time.

I think you’re on the money there with the appeal been the early 20s.

Also the profile of AFLW and NRLW is growing, 7’s Rugby is mostly absent from the media coverage outside of the Commonwealth Games, Olympics and Sydney 7s; whereas the NRLW/AFLW are getting regular media coverage and the ability to play in front of friends and familIes in matches which are broadcast at friendly times.

Third party deals and private endorsement deals on offer for NRLW is only going to skyrocket in coming years.

So, it's just like the men. NLRW and AFLW are gonna smash the 7sW

Something we've really failed to do is properly commercialise 7s. Considering the success and overall quality of our women a proper national/TT/Pacific circuit prioritising them would have probably been pretty entertaining viewing. The AON 7s is a great development and identification pathway but not something that can compete commercially.

Its a limit with the current World 7s series circuit, pre-covid there were rumours of reforming the series into a more regional competition to increase the commercial appeal… but covid, travel restrictions and finances have killed/postponed that.

No i’m just saying you cant rely on the international travel aspect of the game to retain and recruit talent, especially those in their mid to late 20s

Not overly sure how much a more regional structure would appeal to our domestic audience. I was talking more about a domestic oriented circuit.

You spoke of commercialisation, a regional plan was supposed to increase the commercial appeal

As for greater domestic appeal; well the plan was never released but i can only imagine a regional model was done with the intent provide a better tv product. I dont see a domestic 7’s series ever holding much commercial appeal whilst the best players are off playing the international series, it would need to be aligned with the international window.

Has anyone found the replay to the two overnight games on the ap of elsewhere?
The 7plus app isn’t easy or intuitive to use, but you need to scroll down on the Home tab to ‘Explore Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games’ and then scroll across to the Rugby 7s tile. The replays are in there.

I'm not suggesting it directly compete with the World Series. More look to a 6-8 or so week period in September/October. Leading into the series. Would actually be the perfect preparation in my opinion. We could use the current 6 Super W teams. Each hosting a round. A bit controversial as a means of packaging it more for TV we could look to alter things about the game like length. Just throwing it out there but instead of 7 minute halves you could go with 14 minute halves and introduce rolling subs to address the fatigue. So that instead of it being a day long event it could be packaged into a 2-2.5 hours.

Hmmm... That wasn't very good. Aus women often struggle vs the bigger teams. Still, they play the darkness next who they will have to beat anyway to get the gold. Just have to do it the hard way.

How did Austarlia not score then, Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) made a poor call trying to beat the defender on the outside when Australia had an overlap back on the inside, then stupidly turned the ball over in a poor offload

Not sure how Maurice Longbottom didn't get a penalty then, Kenya player didn't release the ball.

Nevermind, Australia get penalty on next play
