Left to the last minute. The interns at Tah HQ must be focused on Mid semester exams at the moment.

sarcophilus, they have probably used the young persons bush telegraph (facebook) to organise this. I refuse to use it but the Junior Jarses swear by it. (They also swear on it and around the house but that is another story).

JGS or NGS?
Which of the metro Squads and have they been training in secrete since the break-up a month ago
Do you find conversations difficult to hear over the low rumbling of imminent earth quakes and dog whistles are deafening over the telephone. Is this a secrete squirrel exercise for only selected members of a particular squad, Have the selected players been told not to brag to their mates

Conspiracy theories abound! CTPE ( or should I call him CTS! ;) ) is correct though - last minute call to JGS squad members to fill in at half time. Nice to see Secret Squirrel get a run too!!! :)

JGS - and all quite innocent I suspect. A late minute call for all Sydney JGS squads players to nominate to play in a 7 minutes half time seven's exposition on Friday night - "first in best dressed" got the nod.
"all Quite Innocent"
the silence is deafening
did the chain start at Rugby Mum2's "Top GPS School" and get passed around before being allowed out, I have asked around and there are a few that knew nought of it

email, schmemail, They should have used facebook to communicate. The young'uns are seldom very far away from that. Rather egalatarian too I am told.

The Kevin Bacon effect.

How many are there in JGS in Sydney? How many do they need for a 1/2 time 7's demo game?

First in best dressed.

TKS v TSC it is then eh.

fits this thread beautifully
may be more an add for the horror movie "the human centipede" than anything Kev has done

The Kevin Bacon effect.

First in best dressed.

The three Sydney JGS squads had about 60 in each = 180 players.

The request was sent to squad member's emails late yesterday afternoon - 22 players wanted - first to reply got the nod. They are only playing for one half of 7 mins so not a lot of game time to be had for those who play but a great experience nonetheless.

As the 2012-13 JGS squads were composed of players in the u14s-u18s age groups I suspect that for safety reasons the request may have only been sent to players in the u17 & u18 groups (it obviously wouldn't be a good look to have an u18 player smashing an u14 player). If this is this is the case it may allay the concerns of the conspiracy theorists whose sons didn't get an email.

I presume from the silence that this is right - but there's always a nagging doubt

It seems the people replying in the affirmative are from the East or the West. Asking just two squads would make sense as these players would at least know each other, which would be helpful in this situation.

I've now seen a copy of the email - the invitation reads;

"The Junior Gold Program have had an exciting opportunity for U18 JGP players to play an exhibition game of Sevens Rugby at half time in the Waratahs vs Chiefs game this Friday @ Alliance Stadium"

I went to the Tahs v Chiefs match and watched the JGS boys at half time - I only counted 17 players - the blue team had 2 reserves and the gold team 1 reserve so I'm guessing that a few of the 22 who got in first didn't front? Some entertaining stuff though from those who played allthough their time on the field was very brief.

You are quite correct there were only 17 JGS boys there. It's surprising that if they chose 22 that the other 5 plus who put their hands up to be involved weren't there. I'm sure that those who missed out on getting in quickly will be disappointed that they didn't get the opportunity that these 5 wasted. Looking through the binnoculars I could only see 2 possibly 3 GPS players so rest easy Sacrophilus there was plenty of non GPS boys involved.

An invitational friendly/demo match is a silly thing to get fired up about, but it still seems to follow a familiar theme,
and coincidently enough GPSOLDBOY likes that
this seven a side could have been organised from just about one squad if there are 60 in each so asking two helps ensure a game
A group email is the fairest approach as there are under 20s that don't like or use face book much
Did anyone from the Northern squad get an invitation? Just a yes from one of them would be good, but all the replies have been from West and East which would maintain the exclusive feel of the event
It is a shame some excluded other potential combatants by accepting and not turning up, probably didn't check on available transport before accepting

I;m told that the email was sent to all boys in the the Sydney North, East and Western squads who were in the U18 age group - given that it seems to have been a last minute decision to hold the "exhibition sevens" game with the email being sent out after 5.30pm last Tuesday it is understandable why it was sent to the Sydney based squads only. What is interesting is that the Waratahs website had been promoting a "Polynesians Sevens exhibition game" at halftime in the Tahs game on their website as late as last Friday. Maybe something else that had been organised fell through hence the need for the ARU to get something else in place at short notice.

Hugh
Sorry don't understand the Dredlock scholarship remark!!!
The Illawarra team will depend on our Campbelltown
Boys trialling for that team.
Watched my boy play at illawarra last season plus Country & Nationals
& you need the Polynesian boys & Tommy .
Also Keiron ???(sorry cant place his surname)
These boys are the Illawarra team backbone.
Also where are the other players coming from &who are they..

Sydney Rugby tragic,

I had let this question go thru to the keeper, prefering that the boys themselves answer the question. A week ago they answered your question in the most emphatic way by winning the Country Championship undefeated. They and the country selector answered your question .."who are they..." by selecting 11 Illawarra boys out of 23 in the Country team (we will have to look at the record books to see when this was last done).

Well done the Illawarra U17s you committed to each other, trained hard, played well and deserved the results you have achieved.

And now the State Championships.
