Scrap RWC Third vs Fourth in favour of a SH vs NH Game

This idea is awesome but as many of you have eluded to, the game would be pointless if the final was NH v NH or SH v SH. Personally I'd rather see dream teams playing instead of a 3rd v 4th game. By that I mean the form 44 players of the competition who aren't competing in the final are selected for two separate teams that play each other. Obviously the players would be evenly distributed, that way you could have Carter playing against McCaw if and when the Kiwi's get eliminated in the QF's. This gives players the opportunity to dish out pain on fellow squad members who they have grudges against :D.

This game would have to be played in good spirit and I'd rather see it taken light-heartedly by the players AND REFEREE. There would have to be pre-requisites such as the minimum players from each nation and maximum but you can see the possibility of playing with players who the usual superstars would never cross paths with. It allows rugby to be played the way its meant to be, in good spirit and for fun.

Just an idea.. Gives form players an extra game during the competition, obviously would be a voluntary thing as not all would want to play. Also wouldn't have any interchange regulations

A plate competition would be a great idea. I would hope the IRB assist's the minor nations in funding such an exercise.

I still like the idea of having merit team's play.

I would love to see a SH v NH match every year. Rotate it annually between being played in the South during the June internationals and during the November tests in the North. No concessions to picking a certain amount of players from each country.

Or, off-topic, a fairly rare (every 2, or 3 years perhaps) match between British Lions and ANZAC's played in London.

3rd vs 4th game decides the groups for the next RWC, doesn't it?

No, its purely based on world ranking 1-2 years (i think) prior to the tournament.

Hence why NZ and Australia are top seeds in their pool despite their early exits last time around.
