Im convinced Braveheart is Robbie Deans and if your not let it go champ he is gone! (and shock horror we are starting to score some tries). thought we were discussing aus v scotland

Of course I'm not Robbie Deans. I wasn't even a fan.

All I was doing was pointing out the hypocrisy between the things that are being defended now whereas almost identical situations were criticised relentlessly previously.

As with most things in life, the truth of the matter lies somewhere in the middle.

biggest threat this weekend is these:

nematodes.

Hope no one gets a major knee injury or other leg injuries on the crap nematode infested surface of Murrayfield. If we get through the match unscathed it will be a v good thing. Pull out the 21mm studs boys.

They are bizarre, I agree, but they are not outwardly stupid like picking a 23 year old winger at 10 for the Lions tour.

Deans' selection of JOC (James O'Connor) at 10 was wrong but it wasn't stupid. He thought JOC (James O'Connor) was our long-term 10. Considering that many pundits thought he was our long-term 12 (including many posters on here) and should have been tried there much sooner, it can hardly be considered as stupid. He might have been proved right. It's a shame he wasn't.

I think we're all more shocked that he's "sticking up" for him. If Deans were still coach that wouldn't be the case.

All of us? Speak for yourself. The dislike of Deans wasn't any more universal than the current upwelling of unease with MacKenzie is.

After watching JOC (James O'Connor) play at 10 in the rounds of Super Rugby leading up to the Lions Tour and thinking he could convert that into a test 10 capable of taking on the British and Irish Lions in 2-3 weeks time was a very, very stupid decision.

Very,very stupid?
They won one game and lost another by a point.
That's the same squad that was bitched by South Africa,NZ & England so far this year.
Wrong maybe, but not very, very stupid.
Not everything can be viewed in absolute terms.
Not everything Robbie did was wrong, and everything that Link does,is not absolutely perfect.

You missed the point. Anyone who watched JOC (James O'Connor) in terms of him being a 10 leading up the Lions and thought, "I can make that a Lions-beating 10" was either making a very stupid decision or an incredibly arrogant one. He was visibly not even a passable 10 at Super Rugby level at the time.

I never mentioned Link in any of my above posts. I was specifically talking about the decision to make JOC (James O'Connor) the 10 for the Lions series.

I have to agree.
I said so at various times.
The thinking that JOC (James O'Connor) was the answer at 10 (or 12) is indicative of a fundamental shortcoming in what we expect of our 1st and 2nd 5/8s.
Consider the 10s we have had when we have won the RWC.

Please explain: Why are some of you still talking about Deans, JOC (James O'Connor) and Beale?
Move on you guys, as none of the aforementioned are involved in this match, either can it, or start a new thread titled "ancient history", or "my love for fallen stars"!

@Mr Doug, without the three above, and Quade and O'Neill there would almost have been nothing to rant about on these threads. It's withdrawal syndrome, until we can find some replacement polarising personalities in Wallabydom, there will be those who find it hard to move on.

Why is all the discussion about the bloody backs and who is playing where?

Rugby games are won by the piggies. The stuff the pretty boys do is the window dressing. They seldom lose games. Sure there may be some interesting selection choices, but we need to be talking about how our fatties will be monstoring the Single Malts, and delivering so much pill to the pretty boys that it won't matter if they stuff it up 1/2 the time.

The Brown Hornet was on the money above in what this game will be about. The piggies chosen should be good enough to do the job. Backs - Meh, we will still win.

Men in Gold by 12 points. MOM Fardy.

I think Izzy is now playing extremely well at 15. At the start of his Rugby career I thought the accolades he got was over the top. But now, he is fantastic under the high ball and is running hard and with purpose. leave him at 15 - why fuck with something that is not only not broken but going very well.

Link would have picked the outside back's with a planned game plane. They would gave trained and played variations of it.
Looking forward to it.

Top of the morning to you Mr Jarse. As usual, (with regard to the RD, KB (Kurtley Beale), JOC (James O'Connor) rants), "seldom are you wrong, but you're right again"!

I'm certainly looking forward to this match as much for the unpredictable, the unusual, and the unexpected, given the new combinations.
Given my liking of "Aussie Mike", (and I've never met him), my MOTM is M Harris, after slotting thee conversions from the sidelines, four penalties and two drop-goals! Expect Steve (the free-running centre with the flick-pass) Moore to have another blinder, the scrum to be more than competitive, and our backs to make the Scots look like the Parramatta Eels!!
Hooper will shock all Wallaby supporters by wearing garters to keep his socks above his ankles on his skinny legs.
Israel Folau will shine, as sporrans litter the field having been cast off like unwanted ballast from a sinking "Titanic 2"!

Man the lifeboats Scotland!!!

Izzy is our only back who was not born in NZ. Funny stuff. I really do think oz rugby would be dead without all the kiwi's, Pacific Islanders and saffas moving here over the last couple of decades. It's a good thing.

Highlander35, I like to think I have psychic powers, (because, in the past I've foreseen "events", including a fatal car accident), however, on this occasion, I can assure you it's pure, unbridled optimism!
Having Scottish blood (from Castle Douglas, hence my given name), and Welsh blood in my veins, my "equal-second favourite" national Rugby teams after the men in gold, are those two teams.

BTW, I'm house-sitting for my son this weekend, and don't seem to be able to "reply" to individual G&GR posts using my laptop through his wireless router! He's on ADSL, whilst at home, I'm on Cable, so maybe that makes a difference. Any suggestions from any of you IT geeks to overcome this problem would be appreciated, otherwise I'll reply this way.
