School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Wow. Just like a Gillard cabinet meeting. All the details are out within hours.

I am sort of guessing Lambert was not the leaker given the critique on his performance.

Just blown away by the integrity and credibility of all involved. Seriously there are a lot of people with some questions to answer and amazed that so many on this site are so anxious to find black and white when the question is to find how you deal with grey.

What is grey about it?

"Our responsibility as school masters is to work with the clay we are given and to make the best possible outcome for our boys."

Pretty Black & White to me.

Lambert can fix it simply, easily and quickly if he wants

Must say this guy from herald is great at getting comments from which students? Notice no names backing claims, I bet he could have got many more that would say opposite if he wanted to mention there quotes , but he probably wouldn't want to do.that, as its not as exciting. If aagps hasn't stopped all games, and is not Going to stop awarding points, does that man that they don't see any breaches,as there comments and actions I would Imagine are independent. Sick of comments by headmasters that only back there side, but more importantly the reporter that angles things only one way. Will be interesting to see if the Daily Telegraph like previous articles (the truth revealed about Scots basketball team revealed) give more proof(by students that will name themselves) saying the opposite. I must say the other reporters evidence at Daily is more convincing especially with student comments. Can't wait to see, articles in different paper that will tell different story. but remember Vindickdam , to be balanced and quote the opposite story when it pops up. Didn't you see the quote from the student that backed up claim with his name therefore not fantasy I would say . At least that reporter must have got better facts, which are not just ( maybe what reporter, wants to say, and the herald guy doesn't seem to get these other interviews that dispute his previous tales- so who is the lazy reporter?) . Is this why Aagps haven't done anything, why are they not going to stop giving points to schools that continue- is that because they have both sides of story, and don't have anything to gain by a comment backed up by a name, that is not one of these headmasters involved in this disagreement. That's what I see between the lines, but of course it is just another theory.

Even the posters on here show restraint in using names and since it is not about the kids I don't see why their names should be exposed. Just as I don't see why a school should have a right to inspect the books of any other school: its not a professional competition with big money at stake like the NRL or AFL.
At the end of the day the headmasters of all the GPS schools can do whatever they want - including induce - and there's no obligation on the others to accept it. If they don't want to play them because the parking in Bellevue Hill is crap that is their right.
Each school's obligation is to its own students not the students of any other school.

I see you're still running the giant conspiracy theory line. The journalist seems to have run quite a balanced article to me. Quotations from some of the Headmasters, he seems to have given Dr Lambert the opportunity to make comment which was apparently declined. It's actually not uncommon for journalists not to name sources in stories - so I'm not sure why you think it is. It's called protecting the source - you might not believe it but sometimes whistleblowers suffer when named.

It could all be a giant plot by a journo aided by 5 Headmasters and non-existent sources to destroy Scots or his reports could be reasonably accurate. It's up to each of us to make their own informed judgements on that.

I just don't understand your POV muglair.
In what way can Grammar Shore View & Joeys people be criticised?
Why should they have to compromise their standards?
I think this shows that there's been a subtle change in the balance amongst the GPS Heads. If their biographies are accurate, neither Ross Tarlington or Dr Hine come from a GPS type sporting background and so seem far more likely to follow the Shore/Grammar line than the Hawkes doctrine. Dr Hawkes seems to have sniffed the wind and trimmed his sails as well. I suspect that Newington can't really comment after recent years of rugby, but if the message has reached Stanmore, it leaves Dr Lambert rather isolated and significantly out of step.

if the other schools where not prepared to show there books, then they should not have mand allegations in public, if they don't want same scrutiny. Because that says to me they are just as bad therefore should not have gone about things as they have done, not professional- maybe they have egg on there face now - all of them. It's been great for the kids to hear all there efforts undone so publicly especially when no one is backing up there claims. Damaging claims publicly without specific facts proven, and no recognition for true backed up evidence of counterclaim, which always takes longer to hear, well after damage done, and mud thrown. That's all I am saying - all of this should not have been in papers. Who started the rumours now its time for them to be under the microscope(good luck gang of 5 , will will enjoy reading about your books which will show the same egg). If you now have the guts to show it. This weakness in every profession shits me, so I am glad the kids are learning how to be professional from there headmasters and reporters. I am proud to have gone to a private school, we were taught manners, and not to wine, and it starts at the top of any organization. That's one why stories that show only villains, without everyone treated equally caps me. Excuse my language, this does frustrate me having been taught in great school like all them ones in exposed trash articles

You guys do want, all angles don't you , not just the one from reporters. But of course the truth may get out there, the only one it really benefits is reporters based on what they want to reveal, there readership is going through roof

Let us move into the hypothetical space, @dodgyknee.

Do you think Schools should offer inducements to talented athletes?

Do you believe that Principals should act in breach of a Gentleman's agreement between likeminded Principals about how games between schools should be conducted?

If one or more Schools have actively breached the Gentleman's agreement about how games between schools should be conducted, do you believe that the other Principals should just HTFU and do nothing?

It makes more sense than some of the conspiracy theories on this thread.
Well when you think about it there's actually a bit to it:
Grammar dropped out of the rugby quest for domination early because they knew that if they tried to mix it with the other schools the parking situation in Paddington/Darlinghurst (since this thread relates to all sports) would expose them to serious criticism.
Centennial Park is a nightmare and the gates close very early in winter - the non-renewal of the lease on McKay Oval may see a resurgence in SBHS rugby as they no longer need to be embarrassed about the parking. Cleveland Street issues may impact on other sports.
SIC have always been under suspicion regarding their parking arrangements - have they always owned all that land or have they induced locals to permit parking?
TKS saw the impeding parking arms race and moved out of Parramatta to get the drop on everyone else.
Northbridge is a joke and so is Stanmore with SJC only marginally better and some curious extra parking for those in the know.
I tell you, whatever Bungknee may say, the parking arms race lies behind the stand off and if TSC admit they have bad parking that will go a long way to smoothing the waters.

Surprised you still bother to read his incoherent ramblings.

Jeez. Your incoherent ramblings are almost a worse advertisement for the educational values of Scots than the current basketball scholarships controversy.

I'd like anyone "defending" any school accused of offering scholarships, bursaries, fee relief, discounts to talented athletes to answer the questions at post #3343, not just Dicky Knee (and I'm really looking forward to reading their response).

CAS and ISA may have a similar Gentleman's agreement on scholarships, inducements, bursaries, fee relief etc but I can not find this published anywhere.

It is a reasonably commonly held belief that these exist in some of the CAS and ISA schools but there doesn't seem to be the same degree of debate as in the AAGPS.

Perhaps the School Heads in ISA and CAS are better at self regulating the Him Talks "acceptable" level of scholarships principle, with no one school out to establish world domination.
