By handpicked I take it you are referring to boys being picked from the ever increasing pool of home grown talent at Newington.

The urban myth that "everyone knows Newington imports" is quite amusing considering:

Riverview Old Boys Bursaries
Joeys $6 Million Indigenous Fund
Kings country U15 recuiting
Scots Talented Athlete program
Shore Old Boys "Friends of Rugby"
So its just a coincidence that 6 boys not at newington who were coached by a newington teacher in NSW u16's in 2011 finished up at the school in 2012?
And its just a coincidence that 4 boys who played NSW primary schools turned up at the school in year 7 in 2011?

No point investing if you are not going to get a return.

You have now spilled the beans and all schools will be lining up to coach U16's.

Kindly name the six boys .......... would love to know who they are ?

Will Ahosivi was called an import on this site ..... very informed call considering his father is a Uniting Church minister and pays the same fees as all uniting Church ministers.

But let not let little things like facts ruin a good tale ...... because everyone knows Newington imports

whatever

What is your point? The majority here are stating that importing exists in the majority of GPS schools, under one cover of "triangle playing busaries" or another, who also just happen to be talented sportsmen.

At the moment, Newington are supremos in this field of endeavour.

The point is: it is against the GPS by-laws for all their schools.

Just be up front about it - take the ban of such practices out of the by-laws - let the best importer rule.

Spot on, my ole mate.:)

Just love how the GPSers try to justify their season's results; declaring everyone in the team is a local - what BS. IS has it right - the GPS comp is a joke.

Newington was first established as a school for the Methodist minister's kids. Will was first went to St. Edmunds College - ACT in full fees. His dad moved to another parish in Sydney as their minister (Uniting Church) and that's why he's now at Newington (Uniting Church School). To say that he is an "import" is totally wrong.

Explain their centres to me: Tepai and Milne?

Jesus, there must have been a zillion Methodist ministers in the early days.

According to a usually reliable source, Milne is having full fees paid by a party not associated with the school (the Roosters). A scholarship of sorts, but not one that the school has any say over.

C'mon HJ and pigs might fly. He is contracted (junior contract) to the Roosters and if they had a say he would be at a league associated school. Tepai is contracted (junior) to Parramatta and if they had a say he would still be at Patrician Brothers Blacktown (the Newington of the league schools).

What league associated school in there in the Eastern Suburbs?

I can only think that they might want him at Matto Sports High School rather than New.

There is a Tyke league school (Marist Brothers) over there, I'm sure Souths and Easts use.

Is that Marist Pagewood?

They hit the news recently when they became the evacuation centre after the shopping centre roof collapse.

I thought Souths and Easts tried to get their stars into Matto Sports. Milne was already at Randwick Boys before parachute into Newington. Will need to re-confer with my snout.

Souths definitely used Marist Pagewood in the past but I have been out of contact over the last few years to know if that is still the case.

I like to watch

Sounds good, except Toyota Cup has a salary cap $250k for top 20 players.
They are paying $25k odd a year at the school?
Who pays $50k ish for 2 years to warehouse kid to play in a comp where the average wage in that comp is $10k?
