School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Use joeys as an example for us ......Tell us how many kids have just been recruited to their first xv ? And why you there tell us how many of their first xv had been going to school since year 7 at least , my guess is the majority !!! So maybe since they been training / playing / sleeping in each other's pocket would suggest they got a team bond and maybe just a talented team that have been coached well.

So tell us which kids are scholarships you know it alls?

Also when you tell me which kids are on scholarships give us an insight as to which school they left before taking up the scholarship at their current respective school . Don't come on here making claims without backing it up.

If I thought you could be trusted I would be happy do so in private.
You could read the whole thread and work it out.
Besides, New make no secret of it, Kings admitted having done it in the past and Scots found irregularities.
Joeys is Joeys and the fact that kids from non GPS (usually) catholic schools lob there yearly is an "historical anomaly".

Ahaha if I can be trusted , what you work in the finance department of Joeys and Kings and have inside knowledge ? Highly doubt that , sounds like you an old boy from Shore . Someone has to lose and someone has to win just like someone has to be at the bottom of the ladder and someone at the top. If your old school shore are bottom dwellers why don't you jump on board and assist them by telling them to offer scholarships to players to get them to win ... I am not so sure where your players will come from cause there are only so many good players around , you might have to recruit them from SG ball since all good players are on scholarships with kings and joeys etc..... I have looked at the thread and It does not who wins from year to year , the winners always get hammered with the old chestnut of speculation that all players on scholarships !

Like I said have a look at joeys school tell me out of joeys first xv how many are not long term students & how many players just popped up yesterday ie scholarship .....I don't need you tell me as I already know the answer..

Mods Note:
There is a fair degree of lattitude granted in this thread that will get many banned in other threads.

However, please remember to "play the ball" and not "attack the man". This will not be tolerated and warnings/bans will be issued.

There's a lot of collective memory on this site and in this thread but we dont need that to make the call on Kings: the headmaster conceded it when the shit storm broke over basketball.
Anyone over about 30 has seen enough kids "turn up at Joeys" to maintain a healthy scepticism about the transparency of their recruiting: one of their most famous is in the squad for the RWC.
If you think I am a Shore old boy you need to read the thread again

i really think youse have no idea . Like seriously none of youse would know if any player past or present gained a scholarship based on the rugby ability alone .. Youse sit here assuming , guessing , conspiring between yourselves and outer space that kids are procured to their respective schools via a scholarship to play rugby . Yeah right .. If a parent is paying the bills they have the right to take their child to whatever school they deem fit, even if it is to give their child the best opportunity to play rugby first and academia second .

Please use correct grammar. There is no such word as youse.

This is the scholarship thread. No one ever has a problem with parents who pay fees. It is for those schools who "beat" the system and offer scholarships, this year it is Newington and Scots who are the culprits - whether it is by the Old Boys Union or otherwise. Most people know who holds the scholarships because their parents tell everyone about it. I am sure there are some who are more discrete.

Joeys first 15 has one player on an indigenous scholarship who has been at the school since Yr 7. Surely you don't begrudge that? And his younger brother is also at the school but not in the 16As - so maybe it was overall opportunity over rugby.

This thread is toxic, based on some perceived wrong done to the rugby status quo.
Whatever the reason was the GPS was formed, it has become a bad marriage.
Time to lose it and let like minded schools form new associations . Then we can lose this thread so people cant bully and cross kiss anymore.

Well, none of them have made a move to leave the association yet. There's very few certainties in life, but I reckon you could be fairly certain that none of them will leave either.

Bahahaha knew I get 'youse' talking. It is a rort on what is going on and unhealthy for a competition to have such variables in the top teams and bottom teams. That's why something serously needs to be undertaken to stop the backdoor scholarships. Either open up and every school can recruit say 6 per team or none at all.

It's been said before
If Schools cheat when they are permitted zero mercenaries, why won't they still cheat when they are allowed 6?

If anything,if the good Dr for example, thinks he needs to cheat when no other Schools are permitted to use mercenaries.
Why wouldn't he increase his budget to address the increased competition?

If you look a the Queensland example where scholarships are allowed, it has solved none of the problems of mismatches and the same complaints are made. It just means that the school with the best talent scouts wins.

Hello

Stan Wickham (3)
I think rugby in GPS is in trouble. We have seen NRL clubs like Melbourne & Broncos win for years after fixing the salary cap scheme only being discovered years later after being audited.

The games I have watched for example vs Newington over the years just keeps getting smaller and smaller, home game this year for New there was 50/50 parents, away game for New for 1st XV no one hardly compared to every other school, maybe a few New parents and a mini bus of New boys....... they all could have fitted on a picnic rug.

Yet New is joint leaders with Scots, New has is lucky to field 4 teams per age group, and for U16's which 2 of 3 their teams forfeited Saturday? And rugby is shrinking at New with soccer having more teams over rugby per age group. But leading the 1st XV comp with Scotso_O

Scots is not far behind New with a very similar situation, joint leaders in 1st XV with New, maybe 4-5 teams per age group for rugby. For Scots the last home game of the year at the Hill, there many empty stands. Another team leading the 1st XV comp:confused: and where are the supporters yet again.

Are these joint leaders of the 1st XV competition schools for orphans:(

The other 1st XV schools Joeys, KIngs, View & Shore seem to have greater numbers of rugby players, but are starting to decline as some schools(students & parents) are most likely steering the kids away from rugby both at school and club.

Beyond reason or doubt bursaries, scholarships, Boys from the Bush or whatever you want to call it parachuted in from years 9 or 10.... the majority of the schools wanting world domination is just destroying the sport for the schools and sadly rugby as a whole.

7x opens could run 8 at a pinch ,6 x16s again with many reserves 3x 15s(Glengarry year),7x14s and 6x13s again with many reserves.

Crowds are pretty good this year ,as you would know if you came to a game rather that spew forth the populace view, and the noise generated against the "Combined Marist Brothers rep side " was pretty good thank you.
Yes.. we still can't compete against some teams in lower grades but we are happy they let us play them and the boys learn from defeat as much as they learn from winning.

The spirit is Strong but keep trying;)

Hi @Ruggerfan1 and @ Ratchet_84

Thank you for bringing such wonderful insight to this wretched site. I now have a sense of worth again after reading your diatribes, The syntax and grammar shown has shown me that you are both headed for the high achiever status at your respective institutions.
@ Ruggerfan1, I have but one question. Why?
@ Ratchet_84 I genuinely think that Inside shoulder went to Shore too, but he has just been fibbing ALL his life.

Again, thank you

Love
Brian

I stand corrected on Scots rugby player numbers. If only the vast number of Scots rugby players across all the age groups came and supported their leading GPS team for their last home game.

And that metal thing built over the water is called the Harbour Bridge. That's what people use to cross the harbor and maybe you should use it just once in your life supporting your team. If you need change have a look in the Scots sand pit, there is supposedly gold coins in there for such purpose or even an etag. If you want to sneak in I have heard there is even a tunnel..... password "world domination"

someone .... with half a rugby brain .... from a school in desperate need of irregularities ... lets say Shore ... should go and "check out" that Blacktown under 15As ... Scorpions

bring the cheque book ...

... start with their captain number 8 .... assuming he isn't already signed to an NRL club... then the winger

those 2 alone would get the Shore Mums talking, and have Jika doing a happy jig in heaven
