Pocock only played 12 in year 12 because Churchie had other capable flankers and no-one decent to put at 12, so they put Bam Bam there.

Yeah lomu was an 8 and was competing with isitolo maka for the NZ schools jumper. Thats what i read in Winter Colours anyway,

SHeridan was an 8 at school in Dulwich, second row at regional level and then got converted to prop for Sale

Someone's already mentioned Jim Williams and Spies, but Naza mentioning John Roe in another thread reminded me. Toutai Kefu (former centre) and John Roe (former five-eighth) are another two former backs converted into number 8s, rather successfully.

Then there's Banahan, that average English second row who made a below average winger.
