Salvi coming home?

In deference to those on the George Smith thread who wanted to keep that thread clear of speculation on the future I thought I'd post this in a new thread.

Today's Canberra Times reports that Brumbies boss Andrew Fagan made Julian Salvi an informal offer to come back in 2011 yesterday after having had a meeting with him to discuss this possibility earlier in the week. Something I suspect most Brumbies fans are hoping for.

However, it did also say that he'd met with the Rebels on Tuesday. So looking at coming home, but will it be Canberra?

Salvi will come home wether he plays for the rebels or Brumbies is up to Pocock, the Rebels made it clear they want Mortlock, Elsom, Barnes, Pocock, Robinson, Palu & Vickerman all in vic next year.

Salvi won't go sit on the bench anywhere he's good enough to demand a starting spot in 1 of the 5 super 15 sides next year & I'd gladly have him at the Reds next year if we don't get Pocock.

With regards to Salvi meeting with the Brumbies, Andrew Fagan was unable to tell Salvi what was revealed by George Smith on Friday.
Salvi has an option for another year in his current contract with Bath but he has pretty much come and out and said he would only return if it was to a starting position after being behind Smith for so long.

Obviously there was talk of the Brumbies getting Pocock next season and that's to be expected, but I personally can't see it happening and with having Salvi back, there is less settling in time since he knows the systems that are in place with the team.

NTA, I disagree. Salvi has plenty of mongrel for either 6 or 7. Hopefully he can now shine as he won't be in the shadow of George Smith.

I agree. Robbie will go for a versatile backup.

Maybe he will shine when he's not treated as a general backrow dogsbody.

The best rugby I have seen from him, and probably because he's playing in one position - is as 1st choice fetcher for Bath this season. Playing in tandem with the excellent 8. Luke Watson has done him no harm either.

Bath will be sorry to see him go, if he does. He's giving up few too many penalties but otherwise has been great value as Bath like a quick game that our fetchers are good at. He's earning his pay packet on defence also - at one time the commentators said he was leading the tackle count in the GP.

I think he is pretty handy. Melbourne wouldn't be doing half-bad if they signed him.

He is cut from the same mold as Hodgson. Pigeon-holed as a 7 due to size. Obviously, this changed over time though with Hodgson playing 6 now.

Anyway, who knows what will happen to him.

Besides that heard that the new Mrs Salvi is absolutely taken with our lovely Georgian city and so Julian you know you have to keep the misses happy!!!!
