Four Wallabies in Emirates Western Force team for Adelaide
Rugby WA and SA Rugby today confirmed their teams for the clash between the Emirates Western Force and the SA President’s XV this Friday night at Hindmarsh Stadium.
Wallabies players Pek Cowan, Richard Brown, Matt Hodgson and Salesi Ma’afu have been named in the visitor’s team - the first in Super Rugby to play in Adelaide.
New Zealand Sevens superstar Mark Jackman joins the very best from SA Club Rugby, up-and-coming players from Victoria, NSW and the ACT, and three Emirates Western Force players in the SA President’s XV.
Phil Blake, Defence and Skills Coach for the Emirates Western Force, said that their team’s goal was to test themselves against quality opposition.
“Our goal – coming out of the June Test window – is to test ourselves against a quality opposition leading into the final three matches of the Super Rugby season. We’ve found that in the South Australian President’s XV and we’re really looking forward to the challenge this match presents,” he said.
“There is a lot for our guys to play for on Friday night. There are a number of guys gunning for positions in our final three matches while others will be looking to ensure they hit the ground running after a three-week lay-off when the season resumes on June 30. Either way, we certainly won’t be taking this game lightly.”
SA President’s XV coach, Carl Jones, said that the match provides a huge opportunity for the invitational side.
“This match presents club players from South Australia and around the country the opportunity to test themselves against some of the best in the business. We’ve got a strong influx of players into our side including New Zealand Sevens player Mark Jackman. Mark will provide pace and experience and an opportunity for our players to play alongside someone who is making his name on the international stage,” he said.
“Although the boys are going to be up against the odds, they are approaching this as a huge opportunity to make an impression and be noticed.”
The match kicks off at 6.45pm and gates are open from 4.30pm. Tickets for the match are $15 for adults and $8 for concession/children and are available through Ticketek at www.ticketek.com.au or 132 849.
