Oom what's your news on Duane? Fokit I'll be sad for him if he's gone.
Luckily we have Koster to fill in and these three as backupVermeulen came down awkwardly after trying to run the ball up from near his own tryline, and he was in obvious pain as he was stretchered from the field. As skipper Schalk Burger said afterwards, it did not look good, and while scans will be conducted on the injury on Monday, Vermeulen’s knee had swelled considerably late on Saturday night.
The length of time he will be out for will depend on whether there has been ligament damage and the extent of that damage, but it looks like an injury that will keep Vermeulen out for a considerable period of time. The Stormers are not holding out much hope of him being fit for the semifinal in Cape Town in two weeks' time, even though the bye week they have booked for themselves does give a little time.
We will know later on Monday, but it seems probable that Vermeulen will be out of the rest of the Super Rugby campaign and his chances of being selected for the Springbok squad for the World Cup would also appear to be in jeopardy.
Blou have you watched the Tin Ears Stormers match? Thought you would have like Malherbe's performance against Coenie in the scrums.
Vermeulen out of playoffs
Cape Town - Stormers No 8 Duane Vermeulen has been ruled out of action for up to eight weeks with knee ligament damage sustained against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein last Saturday.
Vermeulen was carried from the field during the Stormers' 44-34 victory and will undergo an operation on Tuesday, according to the Stormers' website.
As a result, Vermeulen will miss the Stormers' home semi-final on Saturday, July 2 as well as the possible final a week later.
