I am hoping that the Reds ciome in first but am in a bit of a dilema for the other placings.

I want all Australian teams to be very competitive and have a close comp where all of our teams are reasonably matched, but the dilema is that this may only allow one team into the finals. to double our chances of winning the S15 we need 2 dominant teams that score a lot of wins so we get an extra team into the finals.

I am tipping the Rebels to do quite well next year and create a bit of a firtress in Melbourne.

Tahs
Reds
Rebels
Force
Brumbies

Tahs and Reds to make the finals as I think they will both be well ahead of the other teams in OZ

I really do think that will be the case, my feeling is that if our sides stay relatively injury free then no one aussie team looks to be that much better than the others, especially the reds, waratahs and brumbies. Like people have already said the rebels could be anything so can't be brought into the equation just yet and the force don't seem to have the squad depth the other three teams do but they have players in key positions in the form of their life so I wouldn't be too suprised if they ended up the pick of the aussies. A lot of that will depend if they can get a decent backline onto the field as they are going to have one of the quicker packs floating around.

The reds have a stronger roster this year and with Link as the coach I can't really see them going backwards from last year even with teams being well and truly up to play them now, a lot of the players will be that much better for simply being part of the wallabies set up. Waratahs are the same as usual, should be the favourite out of the aussies but I can't help but feel they don't have a decisive edge over the other teams. It really depends on whether they carry their game plan/form from the end of this years comp into the next. Brumbies are similar, enough talent to go the distance but I think a lot of that depends on who the play and where and I'm not as confident in them as I was this last year after this years performance. If they can figure out what backline suits them best early on then it will go a long way to them making the finals.

This is the first time in years for me that I'm not sure about which aus team is going to be no. 1 amongst themselves and I love it.

I don't know who is going to win the conference as I am the world's worst tipster but one thing I have been sure about and I mentioned it when the Oz conference was first mooted: that we Oz rugby fans are going to experience something new.

There have always been rivalries between Oz Super teams and Tahs v Reds feuds have pre-dated pro rugby, but we have never had a real domestic tournament before except the ARC that did not go long enough to build up allegiances. The 4 Oz Super teams already have allegiances and, being based in Melbourne, the Rebels win have strong ties to them soon enough.

You can't say the Oz Conference is a true domestic tournament either, but I'd warrant that it will be a reasonable de facto one and that the the niggle on this forum will be ripe from the get go. I think that it's going to be fun and I would not mind if a trophy was given for the winner of the Oz Conference though I am sure others will think exactly the opposite and for more than one reason.

theres no doubt that the development of the conferance system was pushed by the ARU to create a top down domestic competition in the future.

Wouldn't mind seeing some silverware being offered for the winner of the conference.

Yup.
And it would be good to see the 5 Aus teams play after their internationals leave, in a Aus comp.
Would be great to get some of the second tier players a run in a decent competition.

I'll tell you what else would be great? Instead of the Aus Baa Baa's playing the touring teams, how about they play the Aus Super teams?

I can see the purpose of the Baa Baa's, but I think Tahs vs Wales or whoever is touring next year is a better matchup and something people will sit up and watch.

It's also a good practice run for when the Lions come in 2013.

Problem with that is you get guys wanting to leave the wallaby camp to play for there province.

I really hope they don't stuff up the scheduling for the lions tour like they did in 2001.
