Not really a S14 derby, but close enough. Watched the Blue Bulls vs Free State Vodacom Cup final this weekend. Enjoyed the game, despite the best efforts of yet another rookie ref rushed into too big a game too soon. Great back and forth between the teams with the lead changing hands. Bulls win after the hooter went off courtesy of a Francois Brummer droppie (that barely fluttered over). No real stand put performances. Fudge Mabeta was solid. Bulls tries were from Gerrit-Jan van Velze (a Dewald Potgieter look alike), Deon Helberg and Ernst Dinkelman.

So Bulls get the first trophy of the year. Hopefully a Super 14 one, and a Currie Cup one to be added as well.

Watched that final and the Tin Ears were unlucky, they dominate that match for 79 minutes and they must be heart broken to lose that one, I know that feeling going back to the CC semi.

Ja the easy way out for the Stormers is to blame Sereli but I felt the Sharks totally dominate us in the first half and the give away try justice for their hard labour. my man Duvenhage also had a nightmare, ditto Aplon. Pretty sure Joe P will feature this weekend.

Should be a great game this weekend. Can't help but think the Bulls should tank..LOL.

Two Super 14 finals then 99 % chance an all South African final followed by a soccer world cup.

Well according to the local media the Brutes coaching staff decided weeks ago they,ll rest all their frontline players for this clash. Its a no meaning match for them and not worth to risk players like Morne, FdP, Spies and Matfield. Wont be much easier because they have such depth these days.

Meanwhile the Stormers dont have injury problems and look like that man Blaauw will return to the fold.

OK so the Stormers show some real intend here. Mind you the Brutes B show some real passion as expected. Comparing them to the Brutes A team I thought their forwards showed some real guts out on a packed Newlands. Klein Flippie sure the closest to Bakkies (heard for the first time Bakkies got his nick because of his cowboy legs swhen he was small). Its in the backline they came up short altho I thought the backies that played towards the end was more like it.

For the Stormers I thought Flo, Schalk & Duanne was full value. Welcome back to Blaauw and that man Joe Pietersen. He sure must be close to a Bok jersey. Muskiet show some real heart after Bakkies got into him and made Mossie's try.

In the other derby the Tin Ears were just amazing. Pretty sure Sarel Petoors now with three MOTM performances totally outclass and outplay Janno. Once again the Griquas lot showed their merit for them and after this one even got ahaed of the Chiefs on the S14 ladder. The Lions, well they are the only SA side not showing some value of the SA S14 teams.

After watching the Brutes B team, SA are really strong in rugby depth and are on a all mighty high at this very moment.

Depth to spoil for any international coach.

Doc Cravens remark many moons ago, if WP and NTvl are strong , you'll get a strong Bok team.
