Totally agree with the comment about lack of control, but I am completely mystified by your apparent obsession with the penalty at the end. Ball came off a Scottish player and was projected forward where another Scottish player played at it. A penalty every time.
Watch replay. Came off phipps not off Strauss.

Was just annoying. Crowd had been good, with the exception of the card, they were simply vocal rather than the panto-esque atmosphere that sometimes gets going, regardless of whether you think the final decision was a poor one, it's not worth spoiling an otherwise good game.

To a lesser extent, same went for Laidlaws posturing at the end. Yes, post match interviewer is a massive twit asking about those decisions 20 seconds after the final whistle, but you can be a little bit more composed than that.

I really felt for Greig, that must have been very hard to swallow.

People, get ove the last penalty. If we hadn't buggered up the lineout, then it wouldn't have been an issue. If we hadn't kicked away possession, it wouldn't have been an issue. If Grieg had hit the wide conversion, it could have been a non-issue. Etc. Etc. Etc.

A game coming down to a last minute referee call, rather than inspired play by either the attacking or defensive team, will be "controversial", mowt of the time, but there are a lot of other factors at play.

Yeah I understand why he gave it but to me, that occurrence should NEVER be a penalty. It bounced off 3 players! How the hell does that player in front know that it has come forward off his player? To me it looked like it rocketed back off Phipps. It is far too much doubt for it to be an intentional penalty.

10 mins prior Joubert ruled unintentional when AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) kicked it into the Scot and the guy in front picked it up. How the hell was that instance, far more a clear and obvious infringement, ruled unintentional. I thought he got both instances wrong.

^Agree. They shouldn't have stuffed the line out to begin with but this is a discussion board. As if we're not going to discuss the single decision that decided a rwc quarter final.

Scotland still a winner ... I am now making an untimely assault on a bottle of JW Black Label to calm the nerves . Wallabies lacked patience ...If it were the All Blacks they would probably have done an Eden Park on us ....maybe just 2 exceptionally torrid encounters in previous weeks took the edge off us .... And how important was Pocock's absence !!!

I also do not understand the repeated mentions of 'gifted' tries... Intercepts and such other tries against the run of play are no less legitimate than any scoring from multiple phases - and each time a team scores in a Rugby Match, it influences and alters the way that players respond and what they try in the remaining time on the clock...

Whatever the reasons for Scotland being in front in the final 3 minutes, they were - and will likely feel aggrieved at having lost... The fact that we had a chance to pull it out of the fire is no great cause for celebration - only perhaps the chance to survive our worst game, and try to re-set ourselves for Argentina... If today was hard, that will be much harder.

In 1991 our boys put the Ball exactly where they needed it to be - I did not see that tonight - I saw a penalty awarded whilst they were still in the act of trying to get a strategy together at all - I don't see this backline as yet nearly so clever or composed a their '91 counterparts...

Let's just hope that today we just managed to get our shit game out of the way and that the Argies' played their ace game.

The only bright side I can see is that all the boys had a little taste of defeat in their mouths for the last few minutes.......surely that will provide a bit of motivation this week.

No one can feel good about the end of that game.
Well said, it was a fucking shambles and should be the end of Joubert's reffing career. The late tackle on Hogg should have been looked at and so should the last offside which clearly came off Phipps. The game looks utterly stupid now.

Unfortunately whether you even knew the ball had come forward off your player is not relevant. All that matters is whether or not you can avoid being touched by the ball. If you can avoid the ball, but don't it is a penalty. It might not seem fair, but its the law.

Didn't look like it. They looked tired.
Agree with you on that one BH.........all that hard ass training may be catching up with them......did we peak too early? It sure has been a fairly obvious downhill slide since the England match. All the other semi-finalists look to hitting their straps just at the right time.

But it came off an Australian player so he is not offside and the replays clearly showed it. It wasn't the deciding of the game, but the way it was handled by Joubert was shambolic and makes the game look utterly stupid.
