Based on his form last year Samu would probably be in the squad if Rennie was still in charge, but obviously Eddie is not rewarding players for their past glories and Samu really didn't do much this year to stand out...

It's a shame, because he would've been in the 2019 squad if not for Cheika's pettiness.

I agree that Rennie viewed him more favourably than Cheika or Jones but it wasn't massively better. He was still in and out of the matchday squad.

Was it pettiness in 2019? We had Hooper and Pocock in our starting XV and were using LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) in the backrow off the bench. Hard to see where Samu fits in there.

Leota made the squad with absolutely nothing in 2023, all on past glories.

Samu was probably in career best form that year, but didn't get a look into any of the squads because of missing a training camp later in 2018 for a wedding that saw him blacklisted by Cheika.

Cheika went with Liam Wright for the RWC squad.

The backrowers we took to Japan were Hooper, Pocock, Naisarani, Salakaia-Loto and Dempsey.

You could argue that Samu was more deserving of selection than Dempsey but likewise, Dempsey is far more of an out and out number 8 and with both Hooper and Pocock in the team another smaller backrower never made sense for the bench which was always Samu's best role.

No he didn’t.

Backrowers we’re:

- Naisirani
- LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto)
- Pocock
- McDempsey
- Hooper.

Wright was just in a wider training squad. I guess like Samu with Aust A

I don’t mind the suggestion of Kellaway at 13. Petaia still doesn’t fill me with confidence, especially if kerevi is still out, so maybe that is what is happening

- Called it, I like the team,

- Thought from the Roar report we were doing 6-2 bench with ILF,

- I don't like having a specialist 12 on the bench, but Roar reporting that they Plan to play Kerevi for 40 minutes

- Good to see Gleeson, interesting no specialist lock on the bench, Frost should be in the 23,

- 17 players to get their WC debut!

- Will be better to have 2 goal kickers in the starting XV & give Ben a proper go, but expect Kellaway back for Fiji, Wales & the finals

So full strength but for Kellaway and a couple bench props. Should be enough for Georgia.

Honestly, I hope they pull away early and we can pull Kerevi, Tupou and Bell off at or even before half time.
I didn't read the articles, is Kellaway injured or is this a tactical move?

I don't want us to pull Bell and Tupou unless we're clear 21+

I have zero faith in Schoupp and Nonggorr (they did ok last week though tbf)
