RWC jerseys

Mr Arie

Herbert Moran (7)
It's a tribute to the uniform of the Regiment of Mounted Grenadiers. Two Argentine Army regiments of two different time periods: a historic regiment that operated from 1812 to 1826, and a modern cavalry unit that was organized in 1903 to the present day.
That jersey has now gone from a 2 to a 7.5 for me

no just love the symbolism in the jersey. Cant say the same for the ferns spelling uso or whatever
"Printed across the replica and on-pitch jerseys, the fern’s outline is made via a bold single continuous stroke in a nod to the understanding that players never own the jersey – instead protecting it and passing it along to the next generation; creating one continuous line of guardianship. At the heart of the on pitch jersey is an emblem made up of 14 differently sized ferns - to signify the diversity and differing experience of the current squad. Completing the emblem, the crest of the team acts as the 15th fern, with each facing inwards to create the “USO” mark; a Samoan term meaning brother, in honour of the bond between the All Blacks."

Love the new AB jersey and the symbolism it incorporates....

That does read better than "my child drew ferns in crayon the night before the brief was due."

I don't mind the idea behind the ABs jersey with the ferns on the front......but a) make them more subtle and b) get an NZ artist to do it

Also the collar is complete dogshit. Adidas should've basically copied the Nike one cause that is how you do it.

The Nike one on the Argies' jersey? It looks just as bad imo

The resemblance is obvious …but why though?
What’s the importance and association of this army unit to the national rugby team

Does there need to be one? As far as I know Argentina doesn't have any real indigenous ties - I think in South America that is more Amazon/Brazil/Venezuela etc ie to the north. Regardless, if we decided to use our away jersey to honour say our WW1 diggers, would that be queried? Sure there would be some sectors that would suggest another avenue but I doubt anyone would dare say it was inappropriate.

I agree. Too often the alternate is just a lazy white or quick colour swap of your scheme.

I like ours having the Indigenous design. You watch the Argies passion in general and I reckon they’ll love putting that on.

I mean people are talking about the symbolism, I’m just trying to understand what it is. Is there some kind of link between the unit and the rugby team?

I absolutely i believe if an Australian team suddenly started wearing a specific army unit uniform inspired jersey outside of ANZAC Day people would ask why also.

Ok fair enough, I see what you are getting at now. @Marce might be the best to answer that on this forum

There are two rugby clubs with Army background: Liceo Naval and Centro Naval

Centro Naval, is an Argentine sports and social club, established in 1882 by a group of Argentine Navy officers. The rugby union team currently plays in Primera C, the fourth division of the URBA league system.

Centro de Graduados del Liceo Naval Militar, or simply Liceo Naval, is an Argentine sports club formed by graduates from Liceo Naval "Almirante Brown" (Almirante Brown Naval High School), one of the two educative institutions of the Argentine Navy. The field is located in Núñez, Buenos Aires, close to the Ciudad Universitaria.

But TBH there's no a direct link between UAR (Argentinian Rugby Union) and the Mounted Grenadiers Regiment. It's just like the Indigenous stuff with RA. The last Indigenous player was Kurtley Beale, oh, Dylan Pietsch now but Kurtley was the last starter and star in the team. It's not a full Indigenous team as an outsider could think about a team with Indigenous design is full of Indigenous players
