Russia have turned up, that's for sure. Whether it continues into the 2nd half is another matter.

I can understand why Japan didn't choose Ireland, but I would have thought a game v Scotland would have been a great opener. Wanted to be assured of a win in front of the home crowd maybe.

Surprised at Russia's solid skills and decision making. Looks like Japan, along with us, underestimated them and also perhaps forgot one of life's tenets: never, ever, ever get in a fight with a Russian.

Russian 15 whilst unable to more than power walk seems very solid. Also like the blonde 11. Has created a lot of chances with no support play
