Thanks for posting that link,Slim. If you play the video clip, and stop it at about 26 seconds (17 mins 08 secs into the match), you will see why I said at the time that the Peter Horne (#12) try should be deemed a "no try", because Scotland had 18 players on the field when the ball was grounded!
IMO, this more than cancels out the calls that the Scots were "robbed" with the final penalty of the match.
Perhaps someone could get a still up of that moment, to illustrate my point!

Bit harsh Mr D! Every game I go too I see the benches straying onto the field, especially in the in-goal area, while warming up. Yes, I thought it wasn't good form but man binning the points would have been a tough call.

The reserves need somewhere to warm up. They wouldn't be there if there was enough space not to be on the field.

It's very much a standard practice.

Clearly there would be an issue if they interfered with play.

The Aussie women's swimming relay team from 2001 may disagree with you :p

It's pretty easy to stay out of the bloody in goal area when a team is close to the try line though, not really asking much

You were continuing that conversation G-man. Akin to insisting someone else buy the last round just before calling out of a shout. Bad form.

All players have been given their final warning. I hope the Mods start with the yellow cards if any more #10 discussion; QC (Quade Cooper) cf. Foley occurs.

My apologies EatSleepDrinkRuck. I honestly meant that I'd shut up.

No way, dru! Are you telling me that you regularly see bench players on the field of play (between the goal-line and the dead-ball line) when one of their players is between these two lines, and about to ground the ball for a try?

I'm not talking about them running on after the ball has been grounded, but before.
Funny rules where you come from mate ...... 18-man Rugby!

Can't accept that as an excuse, Braveheart81, mainly because it is Twickenham, and there looks to be up to 10 or 12 metres of turf between the Heineken sign and the dead-ball line! Have a look at Slim's (SMH) link.
A "spider cam" shot would settle this debate!

But do you really think the referee should have called a stop to play and denied the try?

Should Australia lodge an official complaint?

I think this is a game for Matt To'omua. A strong ball carrier who can run straight, gain meters and a solid defender. Also I would to pick Tomane at the wing. I know Gits is playing in good level, but don't forget To'omua was the starter #12 for most of users before the WC and he's a fresh player with little minutes of game. Gits will be important in the last 20 mins with his experiencie

I would like to surprise the Argies with them

Having big centres trying to bash through guys like Sanchez is a tempting prospect, however I haven't watched enough of the Argies to see how the backs defend. Plus a bit scared to lose our best in play kicker in Gits, his left boot has been quality this tournament.

My concern is how do we fit Beale and Falou into the same team? Mitchell out?

You're right Mr Doug, it isn't an excuse. And I think really poor form rushing onto the field like that. And it wasn't warming up at that point, just exuberance as right in front of them, a team mate was offered an open door.

Look, officials to look at it, worst scenario is an offical team sanction or fine. But hell, withdraw the points?

No way!

I don't think we have to do this nit-picking. We won, the right team won, in a manner that is really harsh on the Scottish aspirations at a rear point in rugby where the Scot fans were seriously believing something big was happening.

We're through, live and let live. And if we need to nit-pick for whatever reason (I think we can be more gracious) there are much better issues to target.

a. He should have gone to the TMO, and asked for an adjudication.

b. No, Australia should not lodge a complaint, however, the ARU should draw this incident to the attention of World Rugby, and whatever the Referees governing body is called, but only after the RWC is over. (Not like those stupid comments about Joubert making a mistake, mid-stream)!

I can't believe the ambivalence towards the rules, by some of you here.

Many years ago, I saw a try disallowed (admittedly it was in the NRL), when there were two match balls on the field!
The offending player: one Mr Walter Lewis!!!

Anyway, I have my opinion, (and my standards), and you guys have yours. I'm not spending the rest of this week arguing about adherence to the laws of Rugby!!
Go the boys in gold!!

Just watched a few Argie highlights from the pool games and QF. They've got genuine pace out wide in Cordero and Imhoff. Was quite surprised at how these guys can really motor.

Mr Doug, I think you will find the Aus reserves did exactly the same thing for one of Foleys tries against the poms. Nothing in it.

It won't happen at this RWC, but I'd love to see Folau in the centres with Beale at fullback. Could be dynamite

The try should of been a no try because the Scottish player was in front of the ball at the ruck when he picked it up.
