RWC 2015 Pools

I could think of nothing better than playing the English at Twickers and being their second pool loss.

Who cares if it's the hardest pool, if we can't beat either of these two teams then we simply don't deserve to win the world cup. As others mentioned, we were gifted an easy pool last year, we didn't take advantage of it and we barely got into the semi finals.

Maybe I'm being a glass half full kind of guy, but the pain that we can inflict on the English Nation could be immense and I for one hope for the next three years our lads use it as motivation.

Very Happy with Ireland's draw, couldn't have asked for a better draw than that.


Wallabies do have a tough group, but as they will be under the less pressure than Wales and England it has it's advantage. I think Wales will be dreading playingt Fiji again after 2007 World Cup.

Don't think Fiji hold to many fears at the moment. But in 3 years time who knows ? 2007 is a distant memory after we spanked them in RWC2011 ! Lol
Should be good fun all round, England of course will be favourites amongst the British media after thei win against NZ. No pressure there then !!

I thought after we scraped another win against Wales that they might do an Ireland to us at the WC, now they're in our group. Plenty of time before that though and I agree with the sentiment that it's best to have a challenging group to steel you for the quarters.

Biggest positive is that now we don't have to pay attention to rankings for a while. I was hoping (sort of) that we would drop down and get put in the AB's group. It would give them the willies and give us a crack at them early, don't know why people were so afraid of that happening.

The Dingoes tail is between it's legs and it is running scared.

He will step down from the job next year after the Lions defeat, his replacement will be bungled out in the pool stages of RWC and the ARU will run back to Robbie and give him another 4 years.

I think this is a failure for the WC draw system if anything.

Australia, England, Wales, and Fiji (despite recent form) are all terrific WC teams who if all on song SHOULD make the WC finals.

Now, who know's where all these teams will be by that point. Fiji could be anything and the 3 Tier 1 nations are stacked with youngins and could go either direction.

It's interesting, but it's sad knowing we can only see 2 of the 4 advancing. I bank on Aussie and England.

Wales is a team the we clearly have the wood over. I'd rather draw them than Ireland. getting England is unfortunate, but we're either good enough or we're not.

I am thrilled. Obviously I still intend to make the 2015 squad, and can't wait to play in front of a packed house at Twickers.

I also heard that they will only use Millenium Stadium for minnow games, so we might be playing Wales on neutral soil. Not sure if that is true, but it certainly seems a bit unfair that we would have to play both England and Wales at home. Especially considering Wales aren't even the official hosts.

To win Bill, you have to beat some good teams at some stage. If you can't do that, then perhaps you don't deserve to have Bill come and stay at your place for four years.

Teams have made the finals previously having lost pool games.

Focus needs to be maintained at the knockout stages.

Tough pool games would help the preparation for the knockout stages.

The NZRT chokes have typically happened after they have "looked the goods" in the pool stages with relatively easy victories.

That may have been the case until now. The soap dodgers would love nothing more than for us not to make the finals. I would not be expecting favours or fairness, that is one of the perks of hosting.

It's sounding like "just keep telling yourself everything is going to be OK, and it will be".

It shits me when one home nation gets the RWC, and the others slide in by the tradesman's entrance and get home games. Fuck 'em. They should have to play at Newcastle, Slough or somesuch!

That's going to be very tough, especially with England and Wales at home. Still, winning a RWC is never easy and you've got to be playing at or near your peak anyway. I would hope that the line up of teams will focus the minds of the Wallaby coaching staff and the players -- no room for any slip ups at all.

I don't get all the doom & gloom panning us as the “Pool of Death” - given recent results I’m glad we haven’t drawn Samoa, Scotland, Argentina, Ireland or Italy in our Pool and foresee carnage in pools B, C & D.

With England being the host nation, no doubt the opening game for the cup will be us vs the Poms so at least we get the world cup bogey team off our backs nice & early (and even if we lose to them, we’ll still finish 2nd in the group & not have to play them in the knock out stages of the finals – we’ll play them again in the GF).

The way I see it panning out is:

QF1 – SA v ENG
SF1 – ENG v NZ
QF2 – NZ v IRE
GF – ENG v AUS
QF3 – AUS v SCO
SF2 – AUS v FRA
QF4 –FRA v ARG


The above is based on no massive upsets occurring and backing England over SA with the home crowd advantage then NZ choking in the semi’s (they’re only good for one final every 16 years or so).

It’s a bit daunting playing the Poms in the final given our history of folding to them in world cups but seeing that we’ll have played them in the pool stages (and hopefully won) we should get up. Hopefully Dingo will have gone the way of the Dodo and Link will be at the helm – we may just even see some Reds players picked for a change

I love how the media is reporting results over the weekend as if that’ll have any bearing on the results in 2.5 years time………….

Wow, these pools ensure that the group stage will be even better in 2015 than it was last year, going to be really interesting with some massive games.

The last two World Cup finals have been between teams who were in the same pool...so I'll head down to the TAB and put my house on a Samoa vs Scotland final.
