Hooper not holding a candle to Macaw is a statement about Macaw's class over time, not the games he's played in this tournament. Hooper has been everywhere. Macaw's been quiet.

Respectfully disagree Groucho, I think the form that Hooper et. al have shown for the Wallabies has been more obvious due to the epic battles they have been involved in. The Form of the Darkness players hasn't been obvious because the RSA 1st half was the only real test for them.

Also I don't think France were that terrible to start with. The Darkness played them into a state of terribilosity that produced the result we saw.
The exception to that is Savea - I've seen him called a flat-track bully which I feel is putting it a bit strong but he does seem to be better at finishing a team than breaking a strong team open.

Anyone know how the latest on the situation of Giteau, Sio and Folau?

Also, I can't wait until we have a scrum 5m out, Darkness feed. The 8 men in Gold upfront place an immense amount of pressure on the ABs, Kieran has to take it from the base. Hooper 'Schalk Burgers' him into his own goal, Wallabies scrum 5m out. Repeated infringements, penalty try for the Wallabies.

You heard it here first.

I remember the 03 final very clearly.

I was at a rowing camp in Geelong and we were staying at some riverside caravan park. As Tuquiri scored over Robinson *the whole* park erupted in cheers and what seemed like every van, tent or cabin emptied. Strangers high-fiving and hugging.

Fuck Wilkinson for spoiling that party.

You just had to go there Tex didn't you.
Thanks you just brought up BAD memories. I used months worth of credit with She Who Must Be Obayed to grab a last minute ticket and paid too much. Then that Pommy B kicked that feild goal and to top it off I rolled home into SWMBO dealing with the 5y boy chucking all night up like he'd been the one drowning his sorrows.
Not a nice flash back.

sounds like yousa schoolteacher then. Hope the kids got a blast from it. (pretty well ALL the kids I saw had their izzy posters. From that perspective alone he has massively helped australian rugby, esp considering a percentage of younguns will stay with the game. get 'em young and all that)

Geez, you would have thought a venue would be trumpeting that they are playing the game live wouldn't you (after all, you would only stay open if you thought it was commercially viable)

Can find nothing on the net re knickerbocker. Their ad man should be fired (unless it is the waitress behind the counter). Fail.

However, the edinboro IS playing live so may as well stop there.

Schoolteacher, no thanks! Just involved with the kids rugby here. The kids had a blast that day, the highlight was definitely after the training run when they got to chase all the players up the fenceline and get their autographs and photos with them. My youngest didn't even know who Fanga was but got his pic with him and his autograph and now he's his favourite Tahs player!

So the Eddy it is for you. I'm inclined to stay at home, the rugby pub is open but the loig pub up the road will shut and all the ferals will no doubt head on down to ingest some more alcohol and not give a shit about the rugby.

Well good onya for helping the kids out.

just got back from town, the knickerbocker is NOT open and NOT showing the game at all. (learnt a bit about how the pubs work actually, the knickerbocker is not one of the allowed 'late closers')

The eddy is a late opener. They are having a 'halloween party' with bands and music, that will prob keep going until 5 am he reckons. So, 'because we are already open, we will turn all the tvs to the rugby'.

He could not even tell me if the doors closed at a given time, eg if you're not in by two then bad luck. Even then, he 'planned' to close off the doors to the lounge to help keep the halloween noise out. But, as the bosses are at Hamilton Island he was not even certain he would be allowed to do that and would not know till some time saturday.

So personally am going to give that hit and miss affair a wide berth.

Home it is and go the wobs

Haha the pub response is hit and miss then.

Talking from Balmain. I'm having a beer at the Cricketers and there are blokes working all over the place putting RWC Final bunting.

Dicks isn't but I here the Balmain is.

Dry Dock is open and I think the London is too. There will be more.

Might even watch this one at the pub. :)

I was working in London at the time. I started work at 7:00am. By the time I got there my office was wall papered including the ceiling, with life size posters of Wilkinson and "the kick". How the fuck did they manage that?

I was impressed, but no, I wasn't thankful.

Gaaaah!! I just watched the 2003 final replay. Gonna need a lot of beer to repress these feelings down deep again.

How good is the media coverage of Australian Rugby this week? (At least on the East Coast). Some excellent articles by Wayne Smith in The Australian newspaper each day, plenty of photos in the Sports sections, plus a front page photo of the captains and "Bill", on Tuesday.
A good story and photos of Simmons and Slipper in the Gold Coast Bulletin on Wednesday, (they were both members of the Qld GPS premiership-winning First XV in 2006, whilst at The Southport School).
Plenty of coverage on TV news, including ABC, 7, 9, and 10.
Sadly, it will all end soon!

They probably did it the night before - much easier to rip down in the event of losing.

It'd be nice if this all flowed on to some genuine buzz around Super Rugby and the tests next year but I think our ship has sailed.

Well that depends if we win on sunday. If we're world champs there'll be a heap of buzz surrounding the start of next year's june test series

Kiwi lost a bet?

After the Bledisloe win in 1999 I saw a guy holding a sign at Wynyard saying "The Wallabies are the Greatest Rugby Team Ever" while three blokes who were clearly his mates stood off to the side pissing themselves laughing.

People are walking past, giving him thumbs up and "good onya mate!" etc.

He was laughing, but I don't think he was that amused - got a bit closer and he was saying he'd get them back in a broad Kiwi accent ;)
