Bloody hell. I'm going to need a xanax prescription by the time the final is finished.

Short of hitting the power button, how does one block any and all references to rugby?

Maybe I need to go all Tibetan mystic and squirrel myself away in a mountain cave and meditate on nothingness or something for the rest of the week...

@Bullrush, I don't know how it may have happened buddy, but you do understand this is an Aussie site that you have blundered into, don't you? If you are looking for some kind of "rational" expose that Kiwis are better, right now Australia just isn't the place to look for it. We're excited to be in the RWC final, and no we are not going to sit back supporting the Saint Sir Richy blinkers, no matter how rational that may seem to you.

Thanks @dru but I've been here for a number of years now so I know exactly where I am thanks. I didn't ask for any of your support or for any kind of "rational" expose. (You do know that when you put words in " " you are normally quoting someone right? Please quote where I asked for a "rational" expose?!)

I see it as quite even, on form:

Scott Sio vs. Joe Moody AUS
Stephen Moore vs. Dane Coles EVEN
Sekope Kepu vs. Owen Franks AUS
Kane Douglas vs. Brodie Retallick NZ
Rob Simmons vs. Sam Whitelock NZ
Scott Fardy vs. Jerome Kaino AUS
Michael Hooper vs. Richie McCaw EVEN
David Pocock vs. Kieran Read AUS
Will Genia vs. Aaron Smith NZ
Bernard Foley vs. Dan Carter EVEN
Drew Mitchell vs. Julian Savea NZ
Matt Giteau vs. Ma'a Nonu NZ
Tevita Kuridrani vs. Conrad Smith EVEN
Adam Ashley-Cooper vs. Nehe Milner-Skudder EVEN
Isreal Folau vs. Ben Smith NZ

Aus 4 vs. NZ 6. Would be 5-5 if Folau was at his best.

Tatafu Polota-Nau vs. Keven Mealamu AUS
James Slipper vs. Ben Franks EVEN
Greg Holmes vs. Charlie Faumuina EVEN
Dean Mumm vs. Victor Vito EVEN
Sean McMahon vs. Sam Cane EVEN
Nick Phipps vs. Tawera Kerr-Barlow EVEN
Matt To'omua vs. Beauden Barrett EVEN
Kurtley Beale vs. Sonny Bill Williams EVEN

Aus 1 vs. NZ 0

Michael Cheika vs. Steve Hansen EVEN

I might have that NZ team wrong, but that looks like a likely Wobs.

Where I disagree:

Scott Fardy vs. Jerome Kaino NZ - IMO, Fardy is Kaino-lite. He had a massive game against Los Pumas but that's exactly what Kaino brings to the table almost every week. Apart from the yellow card, he was close to the best AB on the park in both the quarter and the semi. Is almost back to 2011 form.

Michael Hooper vs. Richie McCaw NZ - the stats show time and time again the huge amount of work Richie gets through at the breakdown - and the impact he has there - both on offence and defence.

David Pocock vs. Kieran Read AUS - I don't disagree but just wanted to say DAMN YOU POCOCK ;)

Bernard Foley vs. Dan Carter NZ - Carter is almost back to his best and even his shockers don't come close to a bad day out for Foley.

Tevita Kuridrani vs. Conrad Smith NZ - all day, every day - twice in a RWC Final. Especially pairing with Ma'a. I think most rugby pundits outside Australia would take Smith in this situation.

Matt To'omua vs. Beauden Barrett NZ - close but Barrett has done more internationally than To'omua. To'omua is great defensively but I don't think he brings as much to a team and a game as Barrett does.

I think if you take every player at their best, IMO, NZ are better. If you take every player at their worst, I think NZ is a lot better.

If a few of the ABs aren't at their best on Sunday morning though, we could be in for a world of hurt.

Just my perspective anyways :)

Bullrush - I reckon you are probably right and it is borne out by the results of the past four years. Kiwis are class across the board and have been for years - the wallabies are a team on a journey and are continually surprising us with what they can do. How much more they have them is anyone's guess, but to beat the ABs I reckon they will need to find yet another gear - which is a big ask. That said, as we saw four years ago, in a final the normal rules don't apply. Bring it on!

Which team is better looking?

Scott Sio vs. Joe Moody AUS just
Stephen Moore vs. Dane Coles EVEN
Sekope Kepu vs. Owen Franks AUS easily
Kane Douglas vs. Brodie Retallick AUS
Rob Simmons vs. Sam Whitelock NZ just
Scott Fardy vs. Jerome Kaino NZ easily
Michael Hooper vs. Richie McCaw NZ
David Pocock vs. Kieran Read AUS easily
Will Genia vs. Aaron Smith EVEN
Bernard Foley vs. Dan Carter NZ easily
Drew Mitchell vs. Julian Savea EVEN
Matt Giteau vs. Ma'a Nonu AUS
Tevita Kuridrani vs. Conrad Smith AUS
Adam Ashley-Cooper vs. Nehe Milner-Skudder AUS easily
Isreal Folau vs. Ben Smith AUS easily

Aus 4 vs. NZ 6. Would be 5-5 if Folau was at his best.

Tatafu Polota-Nau vs. Keven Mealamu AUS
James Slipper vs. Ben Franks AUS easily
Greg Holmes vs. Charlie Faumuina EVEN
Dean Mumm vs. Victor Vito NZ
Sean McMahon vs. Sam Cane NZ just
Nick Phipps vs. Tawera Kerr-Barlow AUS
Matt To'omua vs. Beauden Barrett AUS
Kurtley Beale vs. Sonny Bill Williams NZ

Australia 12, NZ 7, with 4 dead heats.

On that basis, Australia is going to smash it.

I think this is a good example of an issue I detected while over in Europe for RWC.
IN France it seemed to have been overlooked that Oz had actually beaten the ABs in 2015 - it was like it never happened.
So too here with the suggestion that "i can see why Fardy is being compared to Kaino - he had a massive game against the Pumas".
He did.
I don't think you've really watched every other game he's played for about the last 12 months if you think that was a one-off.
Just why I want to argue against anyone anywhere underestimating us is a mystery.
My feeling is the ABs will win but you never know.

Mate, I was intending watching from home, but let us know. See if I can get a leave pass. ;-)

I would honestly check Dicks and the Three Weeds though. They are more actual rugby pubs.

the pain tells me it is highly unlikely that I will make it. But when I visit him and it co-incides with a game I'll send you a PM if that's ok with you. (assuming we can PM on this site)

I might quickly start checking if the game will be done live at a venue in bathurst. I can handle a ten minute drive, but not a three hour one.

Any roarers know of anything in bx? Think KOB is a local of some description, he'd have a finger on the pulse.

Thanks for that, was going to PM him suggesting it be toned down a bit.....

...... and thank you for the modification.

As @dru said, let's get back to the footy :)

Well, my missus is a kiwi from havelock north, so in many ways it WAS kinda an appropriate avatar. But I concede that in these circumstances not so much

There's a story on the front page about pubs showing the game.

Nutta has suggested this in the comments.

"Rumour has it the Knickerbocker in Bathurst is all systems go"

I'd call them and check.

can I double like you BH? Saw that front page yesterday, so that comment may have been added afterwards.

thanks very much, will definitely check (or should I say cheik?:))

Actually I'm not in Bathurst, I'm at Mudgee. I'm told that any venue is able to get a special events licence for something of national significance like this and I know of at least one pub over here that will be open, but I think you have to get there by 1am.

I'd try the rugby club pubs over there - CSU are sponsored by The Eddy and Bulldogs by the Kings Hotel, so they's be a good starting point. Bulldogs themselves could be screening it at their clubhouse.

Which team is better looking?

Scott Sio vs. Joe Moody AUS just
Stephen Moore vs. Dane Coles EVEN
Sekope Kepu vs. Owen Franks AUS easily
Kane Douglas vs. Brodie Retallick AUS just but hardly an advantage as Rettalick on his day is easily capable of playing above Douglas
Rob Simmons vs. Sam Whitelock NZ easily - Whitelock is one of the form lock of RWC IMO.
Scott Fardy vs. Jerome Kaino AUS on form. Fardy is playing the best rugby of his career and by far the more dynamic player. BUT like above hardly an advantage as Kaino on his day can easily play above Fardy.
David Pocock vs. Richie McCaw AUS just.
Michael Hoopervs. Kieran Read NZ -I switched the roles, as I see it more like this in general play. Read over Hooper but Poey over McCaw.
Will Genia vs. Aaron Smith NZ but close - Aaron smith on his day far more dangerous
Bernard Foley vs. Dan Carter NZ easily
Drew Mitchell vs. Julian Savea EVEN
Matt Giteau vs. Ma'a Nonu AUS just on form - but again Nonu on his day by far the more dangerous player.
Tevita Kuridrani vs. Conrad Smith EVEN
Adam Ashley-Cooper vs. Nehe Milner-Skudder EVEN
Isreal Folau vs. Ben Smith NZ easily on form

Tatafu Polota-Nau vs. Keven Mealamu AUS easily
James Slipper vs. Ben Franks AUS
Greg Holmes vs. Charlie Faumuina NZ Faumuina more of an impact player
Dean Mumm vs. Victor Vito NZ
Sean McMahon vs. Sam Cane NZ just
Nick Phipps vs. Tawera Kerr-Barlow AUS
Kurtley Beale vs. Beauden Barrett AUS just
Matt To'omua vs. Sonny Bill Williams NZ easily

Too close to call.

well, I guess mudgee is kinda close, but (as I recall) that you seemed highly likely to visit the wobs when they trained at bathurst on their tour last year I guess what it really says is that you are definitely NOT a closet wallaby/rugby fan!

I think The Park was bulldogs sponsor, but they seem to be doing major renos that would rule it out for now.

Anyways, might go for a wander around town to kill some time, even pop over to the clubhouse and see if there are any signs up (tho they do seem rather poor at that side of promotion)

enough of this sidetrack of the thread, thanks to all who have helped with it.

"aye, there's the rub", as Bill would say. played over 5, 6.... 10 games, i think we would all expect the AB's to come out on top, BUT and its the very large but, its a one off and there is a 50/50 chance Australia will win.

I am hoping Cheik has kept something up his sleeve for the final. if the Wallabies play to their best and the AB's are off a bit, then Australia will prevail. i am quietly confident the team will give a good account of themselves.

Yes I came over when the Wobs were there last year but that was to help bring about 50 kids over!

Good luck with your search, sounds like the Knickerbocker might be on the money anyway.
