6pm. But 8k is amazingly pathetic.

Even the Brumbies/Reds at 41k is poor. Seems NZ only watch their own teams. Fox's ratings for their derbies are much higher.

Is rugby only broadcast on pay tv in NZ? Is there any FTA rugby on - ITM cup, schools, heartland etc? I have no idea how the kiwis consume sport.

^^^^^ if it's live it's on SKY. Period. SKY subsidiary Prime which is FTA unless you live way out in the sticks carries delayed coverage of selected matches but the coverage doesn't start until the match is well over: last year for example, Bled 1 was on SKY at around 10 NZ time but not on Prime until after midnight.

Surprise surprise Prime is the FTA partner for RWC 2015 but if RWC 2011 is anything to go by even AB matches will be seriously delayed.

SKY also has specialist shows for ITM Cup, Heartland, Club (Grassroots Rugby, my personal fav) & 1st XV schoolboys (main centres only unless, say, Auckland Grammar happen to be playing Hamilton, New Plymouth or Palmerston North Boys). Shows analogous to Rugby HQ (Re:Union is the main but not the only one) are also still SKY-only, I believe.

In short, being a hardcore rugby fan in NZ is much the same as being a hardcore rugby fan here in Oz: if you ain't got pay TV, you ain't gonna see anything live & bugger all at any time.

^^^^^^ last I heard/ read it was near as damnit 50% of households, something like 850-900,000 subs, but only 60,000 or thereabouts paying the extra Rugby Channel sub, so it's hard to say what role rugby plays in driving SKY subs but it's obviously a factor.

EDIT: dare I say it, I have a bro-in-law & several mates who keep up their SKY sub primarily to watch NRL.

Yep Wamb, and I not knocking S15, just I think it a bit early to really get into rugby at moment, I am considered a rugby tragic, but must admit even I only watched the 2 games from NZ, the Reds/Brumbies and of course my beloved Canes/Lions, normally I try to catch SA games, and I did have visitors on sunday, so only caught a few glimpses of Tahs/ Force game, no doubt I like a lot of people will get into it deeper in next few weeks.

I still think those are very poor numbers when there's no NRL or AFL on. Should be looking at 200k min.

I enjoyed watching the Reds v Force game.

Not every game has to be 100% razzle dazzle. As good as a Filet Mignon, Beef Wellington or Duck a L'Orange may be, Meat and 3 vege is still a good honest feed.

Bit late with this one, but the peak audience on the BBC for England v Wales on a Friday night in this month's six nations........

nine million!

Is there any data on how super rugby rates in the UK? With much of the increase in this upcoming contract coming from a bidding war in the UK its probably worth keeping an eye on.

Highlanders - Reds 58k
Force - hurricanes 45k

Not real good for a Friday night with no NRL. Lack of an east coast prime time game didn't help.

Also Queensland is still on Standard Time, so New Zealand games start at 1630.

However, we can only hope that the standard picks up. Frankly the ITM Cup produces better rugby.
