won't the anti siphoning rules prevent this
S15 has been shown on FTA albeit "at midnight on Easter Sunday" type time slots so it's never rated.
I prefer to think of it as our secret: the great unwashed don't get it...it's their loss

Should be alright as long as an FTA network gets a slice and the finals. Fox bought the AFL rights and on-sold them to Seven.

The current AFL deal will be quite a bit higher than what the NRL gets. Foxtel paid through the roof for the AFL rights because they have limited penetration in the AFL states. The high rating of NRL games on Foxtel is misleading. Firstly, as just stated the AFL states don't have many Foxtel boxes, secondly the AFL games that are shown on Foxtel usually go head to head with a FTA AFL game.
The NRL deal will be substantially higher than their last deal but the clauses and on selling will be so convoluted that it will be difficult for those on the outside to determine the real value of the deal. NRL and AFL supporters will then claim that they have the best deal.

On an interesting note, the AFL could lose a fair portion of their current deal to the tune of $153m. Telstra paid for the online AFL rights, Optus has pulled a swifty and is rebroadcasting the AFL coverage a few seconds later to subscribers. This is currently before the courts. If Telstra lose it is believed they will cancel their contract. I don't think this will happen. The NRL is watching this with interest because it will effect their negotiations.

Not true.

Foxtel are not on selling any matches to Seven.

Seven have the rights to 4 matches a week plus all the finals, brown low etc, and they had the option to on sell any games, but chose not to.

Really? Could have sworn Fox was the major partner in the deal. Ah well.

Predictions for 2012:

SUPER RUGBY

- The Super 15 finals will consist of the same 6 finalists as last year.
- Sharks to top the SA conference
- Favorable draws will see the Tahs and the Blues top their respective conferences
- The Rebels will have a respectable record at home, but will be poor on the road.
- The Reds will beat the Bulls in Pretoria and will win 1 game in NZ
- The Blues will beat the Crusaders in Round 1
- Despite missing out on a home semi final, the Reds will progress to the grand final.
- Cooper will find it difficult to get back in the Reds starting side, and as a result he will work on improving his defense. He will be in the starting side come the finals

TEST RUGBY

- Erasmus to be named Bok Coach
- The Wallabies to win the Bledisloe Cup and the June series against Wales
- Argentina will be competitive but will remain winless in the Rugby Championship
- The Wallabies to suffer 1 embarrassing defeat during the year
- France to win the six nations with Wales coming in second.

Well, they are a major partner and will be airing every match in some capacity, but Seven scored the exclusive FTA rights which include the 4 key games each week which they previously shared with Ten.

Seven could have onsold any of those 4 matches to Ten or Nine but chose not to.

Big call on Inman - given the presence of KB (Kurtley Beale) and JOC (James O'Connor): personally I have seen no evidence to suggest he is in that league

He's not in their league at all, but this is a list of up-and comers.
