But knowledge of a sport, or lack of, doesn't stop loads of U.S. commentators getting work covering any sport. All it really takes is a relatively unidentifiable accent, fairly indistinct facial features, and a degree from the right school and/or being part of the right frat/sorority.

Doesn't seem to stop many of the Aussie commentators either and, sadly, most of them are former internationals.

This is George Bush playing rugby for Yale. The old 'swinging arm to the back of the head/punch to the face' combo. Flawless technique.

A player's player with a freaky attention to detail, does a lot of unheralded work and has his priorities straight -- that sounds like a possible future coach.

Or a present day captain. Alas, Michael Hooper has a way to go I think.

He's also about to turn 30.

He wasn't consistently making the matchday side in a Super Rugby team until he was 25.

So, he should have been another Sean McMahon to be a good Wallaby?

No, I'm not saying that at all.

It was more in reference to comments about Hooper's captaincy.

It's a tough ask to expect a 23 year old to have the level headedness and maturity of someone like Mowen (who you'd also describe as a person who is particularly strong in those areas).

Yep - too true. More's the pity there's no-one else in the Wallaby setup who would have maturity and level-headedness that Ben has. Hoops will probably get there in time.

Which Bush? The one who invaded Iraq on false pretences, or his old man?

Why did Richard Butler, the Labor-appointed Australian Ambassador to the UN and Chairman of the UN Weapons Inspection organisation in Iraq, say that Saddam had undisclosed WMD? Surely a Labor man would have nothing to do with promoting an international war with "false" information! Nor would he be helping the American Republicans. Perhaps your assertion that the invasion was done under false pretences bears more scrutiny.

False & wrong aren't the same thing.
