Richie McCaw headbutting Quade Cooper's knee, and the entire NZ public getting sand in their vaginas...

The catalyst for the world cup win! Onya slim & all you fellow likers, knew you were a AB fans deep down.

(quade knees richie, nz hates quade, nz boos quade, quade melts down, semi final handed to us, rest is history)

In reality: Quade is cocky, Richie dislikes, they have lovers tiff out on the field, NZ public cracks the shit because the Wallabies seemed the only genuine threat to them winning...

I was waiting for somebody to take that comment seriously.

Only part I'd disagree with is I'd change only genuine to a genuine!

I was more thinking before the world cup started, hence 'seemed', during the world cup Wales appeared as another contender while the Wallabies went down in the contender stakes... At least that was from my perspective

That white fella might be a little slow, but he must have a skull 6 inches thick. How he stayed on his feet after that last hit, dazed or not, is pretty remarkable. Tough son of a bitch. And how the other guy did not break his hand is pretty remarkable too, it didn't look good. He looked so calm after it. Like it was no big deal. Unlike others, I hate seeing that sort of crap. It was a massive over-reaction to a shove in the back for being taken without the ball and pretty high with a swinging arm. 3 shots like that when the other guy was not offering a fight, was backing up and had his hands up just holding him off is not a proportionate reaction. Like - Shove - "Fuck man, I didn't have the ball you arsehole." Wack. "hey" Wack. "whoa there fella" SMASH! Mind you, if you start something like that with a shove, shit can happen so you better be ready. I think he realised he fucked up after he shoved him, he didn't want a fight after that, but he got one. A moment of indignant anger leads to a concussion. Cie la vie.

The courage and dignity displayed by the members of the University of Queensland Rugby Football Club, the GPS Old Boys Rugby Club, the Noosa Pirates and all of those directly and indirectly affected following the tragic passing of Halley Appleby.

+10000 from me. If it's ok, I would like to extend this highlight to include:

- The unbelievable strength and honour of the Appleby family. Throughout everything, Garry, Sue, Josh & Bek have exemplified dignity and any courage shown by us is merely a weak reflection of what they have shown us. Garry Appleby's honesty and strength on Triple M radio the day after Hal died was inspiring. Forevermore I will picture the Appleby family when anyone ever talks about the ability of sport to inspire, and I now have a new standard of courage. They came to every game this year, and only wanted to make sure WE were ok.

- Green and Gold rugby for letting Heather & I say what we wanted to say in our own words, and for all the messages of support to the club, the family etc- they were all read and appreciated. Specifically Mr Timms: Thanks for dealing with the media stuff.

- The entire rugby family- anyone who was at the game vs Gold Coast the following weekend will know exactly what I mean. Without question the 2nd hardest weekend of games ever, but also the most moving and uplifting day. Everyone from the Applebys, to the players (both teams), referees, coaches, trainers, the crowd, the organisers, EVERYONE united in paying their respects. From what I've been told since, that permeated all games that weekend. Also recognising the other clubs throughout other parts of Australia who also wore black armbands, much of which was organised via twitter with other GAGRs, and all the players who have talked about him & keep his memory alive. The media tends to fall in to thinking about Halley's death as an "event" but he is easily one of the biggest characters and most beautiful people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.

- Stephen Moore, James Horwill, Saia & Anthony Fainga'a, and Nathan Sharpe. Each of these men went out of their way (above & beyond what the Wallabies did as a team) privately to do whatever they could to help. I single out the Wallabies because Garry & Sue were blown away by the boys wearing black armbands, then Squeaky talking about him on tv, then getting the jersey (with armband still attached), and these guys stepped up in their own ways.

I thought he used his arm, hit him in the shoulder, and from where he was probably thought Ashton had the ball. Ashton gets up and hits him in the back of the head - sure he shits himself after - but he started it. Don't see a red card there - and don't think you should be penalised for being able to fight face to face.

I don't know what to say other than thank you for posting this and informing us of what happened behind the scenes after this tradgedy. Every time we bitch about a player, bad ref, bad performance, coaches who botch tactics, team who flirts with the laws of the game ect should read your post and I am sure they will be rekindled with the true treasures this great game brings.

I can't really wish the Appleby family a Merry Christmas as it will be tough for them (It never feels complete when a family member is missing) though I wish them all the best this festive season coping with another reminder of their loss.

Thanks Ruggo - I dithered about posting anything because I didn't know if anyone wanted to hear it. I'm in the process (finally) of putting down the events after in writing, just for myself because God-willing we'll never go through it again, but it was life-changing. I'm happy to share it, but I don't know if it's the sort of thing people want to read about on a site that is normally more light-hearted. Could be another GAGR exclusive though.

Sorry, but there is a strong Red tinge to my list.

1) The whole Super Rugby GF Day. I raced back from Sydney that morning, picked up tickets, raced home, back to Caxton Street to meet up with the G&GR crew, including Gagger who'd flown in from England and Moses who came up from Sydney. Lunch, drinks and then onto the game which really was an electric atmosphere. I went nuts when Diggers scored and danced and then everything seemed to slow down when Genia made his break and just kept going and going and going and going....amazing. Then walking up a packed Caxton Street, stopping at the Cakko for a quick drink only for the bar to break out in a unanimous version of We Are the Champions, and then heading up to the Normanby for the post match function, and again catching up with the G&GR crew and others and everything that went on that night. Wow.

Some more specific events now.

- Radike's try v the All Blacks
- Quade's magic v the Blues in the semi final including that freaky stuff he pulled in the leap up to Benny Tap's try.
- being in the tunnel at the corner where QC (Quade Cooper) did his flip post his try v the Waratahs
- Quade's cross kick to Digby
- The Digby turtle
- being blown away by how well the tahs played in that game v us in Sydney, specifically how well the pack combined.
- Australia's 7s win over NZ in the Dubai 7s
- Mike Phillips & Jamies Roberts during the RWC

Richard Kahui vs Tonga
Radike Samo vs NZ
Beau Robinson (need I say more?)
Rod Davies bagging a hat-trick vs the Blues

I think it would be a powerful read.

Brad Thorn giving a hand to the crushed argie after the game.
Bled 1 at Eden park, ABs crushing the Wallabies after being called 'old' and the Wallaby back line can 'carve any team up'. Priceless.
