Rugby League players who could have/could make the switch

all 3 having come from a Rugby background, what does that tell you?

In Keary's case it tells you that he grew up in Ipswich and played league there as a junior, then his family moved to Sydney where he went to Oakhill College which is a rugby school. He played both codes while at school, and represented in both codes.

The bulk of his football has been in league.

The Hayne Plane makes a tilt for Rio Gold by retiring from NFL for Fuji 7s.

Fiji Rugby Sevens coach Ben Ryan said Sunday that Hayne isn't guaranteed to make the team for the Rio Games.
"It is a huge challenge for Jarryd but if he gets into the squad it is only going to be on form, because he is a blinding rugby player," Ryan said, according to the World Rugby Sevens official website. "If he doesn't make it, [it] just shows how good this Fijian sevens side is."

He won't make the Fiji 7s squad in 2 weeks. It's impossible for any athlete. He only will become inelegible for the Wallabies and I'm going to hate him

The only reason they'd take him is publicity, he hasn't got anywhere near the fitness necessary for 7's and he doesn't know the game. Fiji are the best side in the world, they're not in need of help.

The positive outcome of this might be that Hayne fails at 7's and signs with a Super Rugby side. He has really buggered any chance of an NRL return by saying he won't sign for anyone but the Eels and they'd have to get rid of half their team to afford him. Might just end up at Toulon or Wasps then

Why would be positive for Aussie rugby? He would be inelegible to play for the Wallabies

I mean if he tries for Fiji and doesn't get a cap

Yeah, but the Fijians aren't morons. He'll play at least one game before Olympics then he won't make the Fiji 7s squad. Any athlete can make the Fiji 7s squad in 20 days. Probably he thinks that Union is like League and he can play for Fiji, then for Samoa and then for Australia.

Can someone tell him the laws of eligibility for World Rugby, please?

Fiji have wrapped up the series haven't they? They'll play him in London. I just wonder who's bankrolling it all. World Rugby, RFU or HSBC?

Yes, it does. For that reason Cheika picked Naiyaravoro for a game

Mate, that was to stop the Scots poaching him.

This is the mirror image situation. If Cubelli and Ellison can play for Australian Soup teams, so can he.

ah I see what you mean, the Super Rugby teams are LESS LIKELY if he's capped for Fiji because they have a finite No. of foreign marquee contracts

The implication is that Fiji will cap him to stop those sneaky Aussies poaching him

I know mate but is a very different situation. Cubelli wasn't born in Sydney and isn't famous in Australia. If he can't play for Australia by having played a couple of games for Fiji 7s he doesn't deserve a spot in Super Rugby.

He would be an expensive player, if he can't play for Australia, the ARU shouldn't be spending the little money which has in it. Bring Greg Inglis or other NRL star

Hayne has little chance of making the Fiji 7s squad, his body shape's all wrong. And he doesn't have the time to learn the subtleties of the game, 15s players struggle to learn it.

More Aussies watching seven's could lead to more Aussie's watching the fifteen man game. It's not a direct positive for Aussie rugby but it certainly could be a flow on effect.
