Having recently read an article about how AFL players are the scruffiest sportsmen on the planet and how Chris Latham was somewhat lambasted earlier in his career for his socks down approach, I have decided to write this article.

I was wondering whilst in your playing days how you wore your kit. Shirts in or out, socks down or up, sleeves up or down, black boots or pink, skimpy Michael Lynagh shorts or long NBA style shorts and finally choices of headgear.

When I play i adopt the shirt in, short sleeves, socks down and colourful boots approach. Basically stolen the JOC (James O'Connor) look.

Well anyway without sounding like too much of a fashion guru state the presentation of your attire and if it was influenced by a particular player.

I was once told by a wise old head 'if you can't be a Rugby player, at least look like one'.

I did prefer the Rob Egerton look...

I agree that its fairly backs orientated but I know a fair few front rowers with pink scrum caps and matching boots.

Did you never keep to the same sort of look Gags, maybe some tape on your head and rolled up sleeves?

Forwards wont admit it but they definitely dress to impress

I always had my socks up but never had my jersey tucked in. Boots were mostly black but normally had a large amount of tape holding them together. I wore navy blue headgear for a season but could never keep it on all game as the heat and humidity in Brisbane was to much. Had the Rocky 3 day growth look going too.

Sorry DD that is hard for me, I consider myself to be a fashionista of the highest order.

On the field I was shirt in, collar down, socks up. Black headgear and boots. Some say unadventurous, but I say a traditional look that never goes out of style.

We had a back of some description who wore track pants in a U16 game. Apparently it was too cold for him to take them off. Our coach wasn't at the game that day so we had a teacher supervising who had no idea, but I still can't believe the ref let him get away with it.

I have words that would fit "some description" for him, but at the moment I am feeling too good and of such a happy disposition I shall not put them to paper (or screen)

Head gear similar to this head gear
I try to keep my socks up but they end up falling down a lot so every break in play I'm pulling them up and to finish off shirt untucked because it's one of the more modern tighter fitting jerseys.

Same as BH above...and like to cut the cuffs and bit more off the long sleeves of my jersey as found the cuffs uncomfortable plus it helps with ventilation...

Scruffy looking front-rower. Shirt out, socks down and invariably sporting a few tasty facial bruises to set off the ensemble.

I can vaguely remember one season when as a winger, I could wear the same kit for a few weekends before any washing was required.

from the feet

Mizuno Mid cut black boots with as long a studs as legally possible

Socks pulled up

Rugby shorts (canterbury or classic)

Untucked jersey with long sleeves (though it was only available with long sleeves, on super hot days we would pull them up)
Collar sticking up but out

underneath I had Canterbury shoulder pads, with a singlet later on because the midrift style shoulder pads piss me off.

I was the first in the CAS comp to Wear Kooga Headgear (same style Matt dunning used for many years) in White, or off white 4 years later and then snakeskin pattern.

Short sleeves, jersey tucked in, socks taped up, usually black boots but I wore white one year, broke my leg so went back to black

Black boots, black tape, socks taped up, jumper tucked in to run onto the field with the collar down but this changed by the first scrum (im a prop, second rowers needed something to grab onto)

Our cub policy about off field attire was very strict, but i guess that is a different thread!!

Socks up, Jersey tucked in, short sleeves, collar up. Annoying little halfback really. Colourful shoes.

Shirt out, socks down, collar up, colourful shoes. I was a skinny, shortarsed winger so no one noticed anyway.

Socks up always. Learned to do it from soccer as a young kid and it stuck.

ALWAYS getting a long sleeve jersey if possible, makes it easier to handle the ball.

White boots- make 'em watch your feet. The same reasons Michael Jackson wore pants that were an inch or two too short.
