Rugby Championship in an Aussie bubble?

I cannot see why the Aussies keep banging on that the boks should take part with an underdone team

At the risk of sounding like a bastard the only inferral I can make is that Aussies don't see losing at rugby as such a big deal these days.

"Losing ain't so bad. Our national team have done a fair bit of it in the last few years. Hardly the end of the world".

I think it's just a handful of argumentative types. Most of us were surprised that the whole thing was ever a chance to begin with.

It looks like a compromise will be reached with the RC being reduced to the final 3 rounds. They are going to release the new draw tomorrow, the Bledisloes will remain as is, and then it will be the final 2 double headers and the Boks v Arg game on the final week to round things out. Presumably they will bring everything forward a week to get everyone home by Xmas but that’s just a guess. If they are going to redo the draw they should at least make the finale Boks v Wallabies.

So, will Argentina play NZ & Aus as a warm up pre TRC?

Don’t know, maybe they will play a super team, or Aus A or NZ A or something. Apparently the Barbarians idea has been canned as the broadcasters aren’t interested. But that’s as a headline act, as a warm up game it shouldn’t be too hard to organise and get streamed.

Didn't the four SANZAAR partners vote on various stuff re the RC a while back? Like the length of the tournament etc. The fact tha RSA and the Argies voted for a six week tournament is what caused all the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Kiwis.

Seems to be a bit weird for RSA to be participating in the planning if their plan was to pull out at the last minute.

reason given here that there wasn't enough time for physical preparation seems farcical, surely known for at least a month by now that they would be going overseas + another few weeks seems ample given Wallabies come back from pre-season in early January and end up playing trial games/early trials late Jan/early February. On the point of competitive disadvantage it's not like its a world cup, surely the economic opportunities tests bring far outweigh the potential of losing to Argentina in Newcastle of all places.

The reasons not to come seem rational enough. The bullshit will they wont they not so much.

Cancel the BIL tour to SA and sent it to Argentina.

Fuck 'em. Argentina had it so much worse, sucked it up and soldiered on.

That’s really disappointing but hopefully the silver lining is they can create a few curtain raisers of interest, e.g Aus A v NZ A, maybe even a full blown BaaBaas team made from the 3 squads and a few wild cards like TPN and Dan Carter thrown in.
