OK so here is my first effort. It is a pretty simple ad really, no arty bullshit, just wall-to-wall action. There may be others to come that are a bit more left-field and intelligent, but this is the pure heart-starting, adrenalin-pumping ad.

I have deliberately only done 2010 highlights, and focussed on Beale, O'Connor, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Rocky and Pocock. They are our most marketable figures.

I used AC/DC because it rocks and its gives an Aussie flavour. The slogan at the end is simple. I runs to exactly a minute.

Obviously I am limited by a number of factors, and it is a bit rough around the edges. The timing was perfect on my video editer but putting it onto youtube has put it slightly off kilter. Either way I would appreciate your comments and suggestions on ways to improve it.

I love it. Great to see that it is all action. Love the song and the tag line. ARU should be knocking on your door. Well done barbarian.

That's terrific. The music is absolutely spot-on and great timing with on-field events. Better than fuckin' Gits kicking for goal! Only constructive comment would be to 'razzle dazzle' the 'Bring Back Bill' at the end a bit, somehow. Shit-hot 'mashup' that would put bums on seats (or the equivalent).

Now, how much have you just saved the ARU?

Gee that's good! Top effort.

You know you need a 30 second spot too.

But bloody brilliant. If the ARU can get the rights from ACDC, then a tag at the end of "Be Struck by the Wallabies in 2011" or something might be a consideration.

Loved it mate. It covers most of the thing that make the game marketable: collisions, passing, running, stepping. My only feedback and it is minor, is that the early action has a lot of fairly rapid cuts in it. I would have preferred as a viewer just to linger on each segment a little longer. That's it though, the concept and execution are great.

I dunno, Like the stuff, but the song is so cliched. Rather than g-ing up it sortof inspires angst and tackiness in me.

good work otherwise

Yeah I know, with the software I was using that was the best I could do. Really annoying, I want the slogan to smash into the screen with a crunch, but it seems that that just may be beyond me.

Hornet I agree it gets a bit jumpy, but with only a minute to work with then you can't really avoid it. Also I think the type of fans we are appealing to will love the speed, as it makes it look like a game of rapid non-stop action.

RF agree the song is a tad cliche, but it really works with a minute long sports commercial. Good peaks and troughs. Very identifiable, and is a great fire-up regardless of how many times you have heard it at Rooty Hill RSL.

The only other bit of footage I would like to see in an ad would be the celebrations after JOCs kick in HK (I think it shows the passion that the players are dealing with).
But given the short time span you have to work with makes this difficult to fit in.

Also, an idea might be to get some shots of the fans too, after all that is what you are targetting your ad to.

I like it. Good choices on what action to include, and it's not just backs highlights and trys, big defence and piggies action as well.

I was going to say "where are the Super teams!?" but it's definitely a RWC ad.

I'd like to see someone make an ad aimed at educating the masses about the importance of the Bledisloe and it's history. It would be a bigger deal if people could understand how important it is.

Your Konzeyness,

I'd love to see one made about the Templeton Cup. Seriously, it's between NSW & Qld and now it's a two part series, there is no reason that we can't pitch it as being epic.

Why oh why does Foxtel or the ARU not at least try to make the Templeton Cup at least look like the bee's knees.

On the head, enforcer. The Templeton Cup is one of those cups that gets mentioned just before kickoff. "Oh, by the way..."

There's big problems with a lack of passionate crowds and declining numbers. What are they playing for? Make the trophies worth something, so that there is something on the line.

I like it. Shows exactly what Rugby is not what it's percieved to be. Good concept, one that with a bit of professional input (I'm assuming its more of a hobby thing) could be a ripping TV commercial on Ch9. As above could you do a Super Rugby ad. Titled something along the lines of 'the greatest show on Earth'. Nice work.

Weary Dunlop cup soon too.

I think thats something which ads to the problem, everythings so regular these days, and everyones playing for cups in every match...

Great ad mate, my only addition would be to insert some choice commentary in there as well, a la the NRL ads. Exclamations like "Kurtley Beale!" reinforce the star image of the players and other comments would just add to the excitement.
As for the footage, amazing work. I would LOVE to see some footage of Quade's sidestep on Cory Jane in there somewhere but otherwise it was perfect.

Congrats

I think they are both great! the ARU could and has done worse than that! Men of gold is crap lets get some action in the adds!

Why is it that the ingenuity and vision of this site so completely dwarfs the efforts of what could loosely be called "professional" rugby marketing? Could it be when you don't really love the game you don't really get what's important? The "men of gold" campaign nearly induced me to throw up the first time I saw it and it didn't get any better on repeated viewing! Barbarian's effort on his home PC has atmosphere, appropriate musical theme and urgency.

The ARU needs a new agency!!!
