Squad members not playing in Wellington played for the dev squad in Darwin 7's this week.

Couldn't win the pool, lost the quarter in a poor effort.

What do they say about doing things the same way,and expect different results?

That would have been embarrassing if they lost a semi final.

Almost losing a semi cannot be compared to losing a pool game, and being soundly beaten in a quarter.

A poor performance in a tournament would be an anomaly for the girls program.
It's business as usual for Friends squad.

Did the girls also send up 1/2 dozen full time pros in their squad?

Tellingly, the two areas of weakness - Ball playing and top end speed, are both glaring weaknesses in this backup squad.

The standard of rugby in Darwin is pretty good. It was friggin wet and teams didn't adapt to the conditions also.

Congratulations to Dylan Pietsch on his first cap for the Aussie Sevens team in Wellywood, a Wagga kid with Phantom lineage. Well done Dylan, give email heaps mate.

Yeah well done Dylan - when Lindommer finds out about the Wagga connection he'll be all over it.

Seriously, it's great effort from Dylan who was at school in 2016.

He didn't make the main Aussie Schools' team last year as a backrower, perhaps because he's not a bruising tackler or runner in close quarters. But he's a smooth operator and you often notice all of a sudden that a lot of opponents are chasing him.

Congrats also to scrumhalf Tate McDermott who is in his U19 year as well.

But the reason why these debutants in World Sevens are playing is concerning—many stalwarts are injured.

It is not a good look for the Wellington/Sydney segment of the tournament.

Details of the injuries - and the team selected - are here.

Andy Friend has approached Linc Port to join Sevens, in the Storm squad currently but usually plays Queensland Cup. He is your classic speedster style of player

^^^^^just another example of zero strategy in recruitment.
we don't need to upgrade our finishers, it's ball playing, where we are weak.

We are well short in the speed department. I don't mind if they chase guys from other codes/sports as they aren't going to be giving them huge money to start with. Also it was a great strategy for the Women. A few touch playmakers who have a rugby background would be great.
